Great Plains SPCA is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in Kansas City, serving nearly 4,000 pets annually through adoption, education, and community outreach programs. As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our lifesaving services for animals can only be provided because of your generosity and commitment to our mission. Great Plains SPCA exists solely because of our caring Kansas City community and gracious donors.
Effective 6/2/21, we are no longer operating by appointment only. You are welcome to come by anytime during our open hours, which are Wednesday-Friday 12:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday-Sunday 11:00am-6:00pm. Masks are still required for all staff and visitors. We will have a system of checking in to continue to practice social distancing, reduce crowd numbers in the shelter and keep our staff and visitors safe.
Please note that we operate by first come, first serve along with adoption approval. Wait times may vary depending on the time of week and day.
We are reserving Mondays and Tuesdays for appointments for members of the public who are immunocompromised or are still uncomfortable being in large crowds due to COVID-19.
If you have any questions about our adoptable pets, please call (913) 831-7722 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Our expert matchmakers look forward to finding you the perfect furry family member!
- Adopter must be 18 years of age or older.
- Adopters must complete a survey and present photo identification to meet any of our animals.
- For the safety and health of our animals, we do not ship pets.
- Pet adoption fees range from $60 to $350. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals needing our help. We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home. The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: age, size, behavior, medical condition, and public demand.
