Areas Second Chance Animal Shelter & Rescue serves

We are a rural county NO-Kill rescue that rescues animals from high kill facilities within the surrounding counties. We teach crate and potty trained. They go into a foster care program to lean to be sweet loving dogs. Each dog gets an opportunity to participate in Dog Obedience Training. We also provide a Feral Cat Colony on 9o acres of land. We take in owner surrenders if the animal has maintained their vaccinations. We request proof of vaccines and any medical history of the animal If available, we try to arrange transport for owner surrenders to be adopted with another NO-Kill facility in the north. We also rescue those that are considered "bully" breeds and get them ready for adoption. We have also be asked to help with abuse cases.

About Second Chance Animal Shelter & Rescue

Second Chance came together only 2 years ago after the Founder attending a USHS conference in Washington DC. When she came back she knew she needed to do something for her small rural community. Since the beginning of this small organization, Second Chance has adopted or placed over 300 animals. We are very small with only 6 people on the Board of Directors and an even small number of foster homes. We are in the process of purchasing a new vehicle for more transports and also a building to house more animals - the land has been purchased and getting ready to handle more rescues.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
