Japanese Chin Care and Rescue Effort

Japanese Chin Care and Rescue Effort is an organization of volunteers dedicated to finding homes for abused and abandoned Japanese Chin. We are not affiliated with the national breed club but operate completely on our own. These dogs are not here because they are bad. Some were very much loved and pampered family pets and are here because of unfortunate situations like a move or divorce or death of their owner. Others are here because the owners did not research the breed before buying on impulse and decided much too late that they shed too much, need too much time or attention, they don't match the furniture anymore, or any number of reasons that should have been thought of before bringing a new dog home. Some of the dogs do have health problems. Some of these problems have been brought about by irresponsible breeding practices. Still others are the result of neglect or abuse. These dogs still need and deserve love and a second chance to be part of a warm, loving family. This is a chance some of these dogs never got before coming into rescue.
When a dog is turned over to JCCARE, he is taken to the vet for a complete check up including heartworm check, shots, worming, and spay/neuter. Any apparent health problems are treated before being placed into a new adoptive home.
JCCARE does not sell dogs. We do, however, ask for a donation which helps to fund our program and pays for vet expenses and allows us to continue our work in saving other Japanese Chin. The adoption fee helps defray the cost of vet care but often does not cover all the costs incurred. If you can, please donate so that we can save more Japanese Chins that need us.
We get a variety of ages in the program, however, most are adults. We occasionally get puppies, but not very often. Males outnumber females and all dogs are spayed or neutered before being placed into an adoptive home. Sometimes people contact us who have strong preferences about age, sex and color of the dog. The more open you are about these things, the more likely we are to find a suitable dog for you. If you do have very strong preferences, a rescue may not be the right dog for you.

Additional adoption info

Upon contact from prospective adopters we require they fill out an informative application explaining you and your lifestyle, your expectations of a pet and including personal and veterinarian references. Then a home visit is done to allow a face to face meeting with one of our volunteers, who can answer your questions and assure us that your home is dog safe and friendly and that any other animals you may have are well cared for.. We require a contract to be signed that outlines our expectations of your care for the health and happiness of both you and your pet. Our donations for an adoption vary depending on the age and health of any Chin
