Azaya Ranch Sanctuary's adoption process

Additional adoption info

At Azaya Ranch Sanctuary our primary goal is to match the animals that come to our rescue with responsible guardians and into forever homes. Our Adoption Process is designed to match you with the an animal that meets your needs and with a temperament that fits your lifestyle.

First, please email info@azayaranchsanctuary.org to request and Adoption Questionnaire. Then complete and submit an Adoption Questionnaire by email or mail. A member of our staff will contact you about your questionnaire and answer any questions you have about the animal(s) you are interested in. If both you and the staff member decide that the animal(s) may be a fit for you and your family, we will arrange a time for you and your family to meet and spend time getting to know that animal(s). Once you and the staff member have decided on a particular animal to adopt, we will come to your home for a home visit. Following the home visit, and at the time of adoption, we will have you complete an Adoption Agreement and we also require a $250 adoption fee. If you have any other animals in your home, we require that they meet prior to adoption.

About Azaya Ranch Sanctuary

Azaya Ranch Sanctuary is a non-profit animal sanctuary in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. What started out over twenty years ago as one woman’s passion, has now grown into a full-fledged rescue and sanctuary that exists to save animals from euthanasia and find them loving, forever homes.
Our animals come from shelters from all over California, including Bakersfield, Lake County, Ukiah, and, of course, San Francisco. Many of the animals we rescue have been abused, neglected, and abandoned, while some have been well-loved and cared for by now-deceased guardians or families who have lost their home. Some have health and behavioral issues they need help overcoming, while others show us just how strong a spirit can be.
While each staff member lives to love every animal who arrives at Azaya Ranch Sanctuary, nothing makes us happier than matching them with their perfect forever home. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all of their shots before they are adopted out. And to make the transition even easier, we offer on-site training for new adopters, helping to ensure that both animals and people will thrive in their new home.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
