Island Girl Animal Rescue Society, Inc.'s adoption process

Additional adoption info

Step One
Contact us for an adoption application. (Note: you MUST be over the age of 18 to adopt and have a valid photo ID). Once you receive the application, fill it out COMPLETELY. Send it back to us at info@islandgirlrescue.com or via our Fax: 817-394-3924.

Submitting an application does not bind you to adopt the animal. Please allow 2-3 business days for our staff to respond.

Step Two
After we have reviewed your application a staff member will contact you to set up a home visit. The home visit allows us to verify the animal you are interested in is the right fit for you AND the animal!

*VERY IMPORTANT* All Members of your household MUST be present during this visit!

Step Three
If we find that your home environment is appropriate for the animal you are interested in, you will be offered the opportunity to do a "trial adoption". The "trial adoption" is a period of one week where the animal you are interested in will live with you. Our staff will provide everything the animal needs to live with you during this trial period. At the end of the week, you will be offered the opportunity to formally adopt the animal.

Step Four
You will be required to sign an adoption contract. Our staff will provide you with medical records as well as valuable information on the care of your new pet.

Congratulations on your new family member!

Adoption fees?
Fees are set on a case by case basis and will be clearly stated on the adoption form for that animal.

You will pay the adoption fee at the time of the "trial adoption". Your funds will be held until you officially adopt the animal (sign the adoption contract).

If you decide not to adopt, you will receive a full refund when the animal is returned to Island Girl Animal Rescue.

What does the Adoption fee cover?
For Canines the adoption fee includes:

Full veterinary Exam
Spay/Neuter
Vaccinations
Fecal and Heartworm Test
Flea/Tick Prevention
Heartworm Prevention
Microchipping

For Felines the adoption fee includes:

Vaccinations
Feline Leukemia test
Feline Aids test
Full veterinary exam

Adoption fee will also cover other medical treatment/medications if required by veterinarian.

Additional Grooming and Dental exam/cleaning are done on a case by case basis.

What if I change my mind?
We guarantee the health of the dog at the time of adoption and will consider an adoption fee refund when the animal is returned to us. We reserve the right to refuse anybody for any reason. For this reason and for the well-being of the animal, we encourage you to utilize the week long trial period before deciding to adopt.

About Island Girl Animal Rescue Society, Inc.

It started with one very special dog named "Island Girl".

The name tells it all. Many years ago, this beautiful German Shepherd was stranded on a Fort Worth highway median. In order to avoid the possibility of a life-threatening automobile accident, Island Girl was shot by an animal control officer with high-caliber tranquilizer bullets. Paralysis ensued and the need arose for perpetual care, patience and a loving home for this sweet dog to continue LIFE. Thus, Island Girl Animal Rescue Society was born!

The Island Girl Animal Rescue Society (IGARS) represents hope, respect for life and the need for responsible pet ownership.

Using local effort, IGARS works to reduce the homeless animal population by offering shelter, food and costly veterinary care for these animals.

While each animal has arrived at our door through various circumstances, the common thread remains: neglect/abuse. Through Island Girl Rescue these helpless animals have found the most basic of needs: love. They need a "forever home" to offer them the love and respect that they deserve. For those animals who are lost, Island Girl Rescue also works as a private rescue service to reunite these beloved pets with their owners, when possible. In the case of an owner not being found, Island Girl Rescue works with local veterinarians to have the animals immunized, spayed/neutered, and tested for disease (heartworm or Leukemia/Aids) as well as providing food/shelter and rehabilitation until the animal can be placed in a "Forever Home".

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Fort Worth, TX.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
