Additional adoption info

Thank you for your interest in possibly adopting one of our rescues!

Corinth-Alcorn Animal Rescue (CAAR) offers two adoption programs, a Foster-to-Adopt and Transport-Foster-to-Adopt Program. Our Foster-to-Adopt Program is for pets that have already been transported and/or living with a foster family in your area. In this case, after your adoption application and home have been approved, we will set up a meet-n-greet with you (your family and any other pets), the pet you are interested in, and it's foster caretaker. If you think the pet would be a great fit, you will be able to foster him/her in your home for a two week trial period before committing to a final adoption.

In many cases, mostly due to a lack of available foster homes, our rescues are on a waiting list to get transported to the PA, tri-state area. So, another popular option with many of our adopters—in order to secure the pet they are interested in—is our Transport-Foster-To-Adopt Program. If the pet you want is currently out-of-state, after your adoption application and home have been approved, we would have the pet transported to a transfer location closest to you within a week or two. You would meet the transport and pick up your rescue at a pre-designated location, then foster him/her in your home for a two week trial period before committing to a final adoption.

We work closely with you as needed to help make your rescue’s transition into your home and your adoption experience enjoyable and as successful as possible. This includes, if at any point, you find you and your adoptable pet are not a good fit, we will find someone else to foster or adopt him/her, then additionally help you find a rescue who is a better fit for you and your family.

About Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter

Corinth-Alcorn Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization that helps the adoptable pets at the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter find homes throughout the country. We adopt out to approved applications in any state that we can arrange transport to. Currently, we have professional transports that come up to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Virginia, and Delaware every weekend.

All our rescues are fully vetted upon intake, updated on all vaccines, spayed/neutered, evaluated for temperament and personality, heartworm checked and receive a vet health certificate before transport. This helps us to place healthy pups in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future owners.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
