Areas The Sato Project - New Jersey Chapter serves

We are a 501 C 3 non profit animal welfare organization where we rescue dogs from Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico has over 250,000 stray dogs born into homlessness, abandoned and or abused. The dogs can be found on the streets, beaches, parks, all over. It is a very sad situation. There are only 5 shelters in all of Puerto Rico and the kill rate is 99%. A dog is lucky to survive 48 hours if they are turned into a shelter in Puerto Rico. We temperment test the dogs, vaccinate them, test them for parvo, heartworm and parasites and spay/neuter them before they leave Puerto Rico for the states. We primarily have foster homes in New York, New Jersey and Massachussetts.

Additional adoption info

In order to meet our adoptable dogs you need to first complete our Adoption Application which can be found here: http://www.thesatoproject.org/applicationform. We will then get in touch to process your application and set up a meet and greet at the foster family's home. Our adoption fee is $400. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated and microchipped.

About The Sato Project - New Jersey Chapter

We are a 501 C 3 new non profit animal welfare organization. However, our founder, Chrissy Beckles has been rescuing dogs from Puerto Rico for the last 6 years and I have been rescuing dogs from Puerto Rico for the last three years. We rescue dogs from Puerto Rico because there are over 250,000 strays and animal cruelty laws are not enforced and there is significant animal cruelty in Puerto Rico. Our goal is to help change the face of Puerto Rico and make it a place where dogs and people can peacefully live together and where there are no longer 250,000 strays. This will be accomplished by rescuing the adoptable pups from puerto Rico and caring for the ones that are not adoptable in Puerto Rico. Just as important is providing education on the importance od spay/neuter and our organization spaying/neutering dogs that will remain in Puerto Rico.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
