Areas Schererville Animal Control & Shelter serves

Schererville Animal Control is located in Schererville Indiana in Lake County. We are a facility where we house the stray animal that were found and picked up within our town limits.
Our first priority is to find the animals owner and get them back home. If we do not find the owner we do a 5 days stray hold. Once the stray hold is up the animal will be available for adoption through our facilty.

Schererville Animal Control & Shelter's adoption process

1.

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

We are appointment only and ask that you contact us to set up a day and time to come visit.

2.

Submit Application

Once the application is submitted we will need a couple days to go over the application.

3.

Approve Application

Once the application is approved we get the animal to the vet for vaccines, microchip and spay/neuter if not already done.

4.

Take the Pet Home

You can pick up your new family member up from our facility.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is $65. This includes rabies, distemper, spay/neuter, and a microchip. Heartworm test is done for dogs and FIV/FELV test is done for cats.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
