Long Way Home Animal Rescue's Adoption Process

1. Submit Application

2. Approve Application

We ask for a minimum donation of $200 to adopt. This donation allows us to provide care to our sanctuary animals whom otherwise would be euthanized. Our Sanctuary maintains a caring, nurturing home life for pets deemed "unadoptable" or who have been diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness. We create a safe, structured environment for the remainder of their lives, because every companion animal deserves a final chance to give and receive love.
With your donation, your future rescue dog will be:
1. Spayed or neutered.
2. Microchipped.
3. Current on rabies, bordetella, distemper and parvo vaccines.
4. Heartworm tested and current on monthly heartworm prevention. If they tested heartworm positive, they will be current on treatment.
5. Flea free and on monthly flea prevention.
6. Dewormed.
7. Provided with a lifetime guaranteed collar and leash from Lupinepet.com.

All of our rescue pets live in foster homes. Foster parents find out what the animals like or dislike, what type of family structure would serve them best, and which home environment would allow them to flourish. Because we have this information, Long Way Home does not use a “first come, first served” approach. We evaluate all approved applications based on what would be the perfect home for each particular animal based on their own unique personalities and needs. We are pleased you have chosen to adopt your next companion animal and honored that you have selected a Long Way Home rescue to become part of your family.

About Long Way Home Animal Rescue

Long Way Home was created to provide the last stop for animals displaced from their homes, deemed "unadoptable" by other rescues, or that need a level of care their previous owners or other shelters are unable or unwilling to provide. We accept dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.

We are a limited-intake rescue that considers pets not fitting traditional adoption criteria for placement into a permanent home. Some have a short expected life-span and need a peaceful place to live until the time arrives when quality of life is questionable. Others can live for years with the proper management and veterinary care.

Each of our rescues come to us from such varied circumstances and from such circuitous routes. They take the long way home, and we are always so thankful for the time we are able to share with them, no matter how long or short it is. They enrich and reward our lives and leave us better persons for having helped them along their way.

Long Way Home Animal Sanctuary is home to rescued Pit Bulls who are what Pit Bulls are meant to be: loyal, loving companions that enrich lives. Pit Bulls are not innately vicious or dangerous. They are extremely athletic dogs, sponges that soak up what they receive–good or bad–and they relentlessly want to please their owners. Because of the stereotypical owner that fights these dogs and rewards aggression in them, some shelters have chosen to deem them an unadoptable breed in our community. We plan to challenge the stereotype by placing amazing dogs in amazing homes.
