Peace for Pits's adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in the adoption process is fill out an application at our website, www.peaceforpits.org. Once we receive your application, a volunteer will contact you to discuss your application. Two to four references listed on the application will be checked, along with a check with your veterinarian to make sure your current/former pets are up to date on all vaccinations. A background check and home visit will also be performed. Once all that is complete, we will arrange meet and greets with dogs that may be a good fit for your family. If a perfect match is found, an adoption contract will need to be signed, along with an adoption fee. Fees range from $250-$350, with a $50 discount/rebate upon completion of a Peace for Pits approved obedience course.

About Peace for Pits

Peace for Pits is a Chicago area based rescue that focuses on finding loving, caring homes for “bully” breeds in need of help. Many of these dogs come from facilities across the midwest, arriving there as a stray or unfathomably being surrendered by their so called “owners.” Some of these dogs arrive with severe injuries and other health problems due to neglect and or trauma. Our mission is to save as many of these dogs from euthanasia as possible.
We are a 100% volunteer run organization, with every dog living in a wonderful foster home from the day it becomes a part of our rescue until the day they get adopted into an amazing forever home. All of our dogs get neutered or spayed, are given all state mandated vaccinations, are microchipped, and if needed, receive other major veterinary care such as surgery or treatments for diseases and infections.
When a dog becomes a member of Peace for Pits, it becomes a member for life. We are here for continued support for each adopted dog. We stay in frequent contact with each and every adopter to assure they have all the knowledge and tools to care for their four legged family member. We do all of this to make sure each dog lives a life of PEACE.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
