Areas Limestone Animal Rescue & Adoption Shelter (LARAS House) Serves

We are based in Mexia, Texas and serve Limestone County and surrounding areas. Our intakes usually come from Limestone County but we will adopt well beyond those boundaries for the right 'forever home' fit. We are now able to adopt out-of-state with additional transport charges to certain northern and northeastern states.

Limestone Animal Rescue & Adoption Shelter (LARAS House)'s Adoption Process

1. Submit Application

Please submit an inquiry/application for the pet(s) you are interested in meeting. Upon approval, an adoption coordinator will contact you.

2. Meet the Pet

At the Shelter or through our Foster families (always best to schedule a meet-n-greet ahead of time if you have a specific animal in mind).

3. Sign Adoption Contract

Commit to the continued health and welfare of the animal. Including spay/neuter and required vaccinations if not done at time of adoption.

4. Pay Fee

Fees vary based on animal (dog or cat) and stage in the vetting process based on intake date and/or age of animal.

5. Take the Pet Home

Be sure to bring a collar, leash, crate, etc. with you when you come to pick your new pet up. We wish you all a wonderful life together!

We want to ensure our adoptable pets will be adequately cared for in their new forever homes.

If interested in any of our pets, call or email to set up an appointment If an animal is in foster care, you will need to schedule a time to visit so that we can ensure the pet you are interested in can be brought to the shelter for a meet-n-greet.

Once a decision to adopt has been made, a contract will be signed with commitments by the adopters to maintain the health and welfare of the animal, including future spay/neuter (if not already completed), along with ongoing rabies and other annual vaccinations. Fees vary based on age of the animal and the stage it is in the vetting process, For fully vetted dogs (shots, including rabies, spay/neuter, and micro-chip), the fees range from $125-$200..
