Areas Rome Floyd County Humane Society serves

The Rome Floyd County Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer, community based animal welfare organization. We are proud to serve the people and animals of Floyd County with a variety of programs including adoptions, low cost spay and neutering, vaccinations provided to animal control, assistance with emergency medical care, a pet pantry for the less fortunate citizens of Rome and humane education programs.

We are not affiliated in any way with Floyd County Animal Control. They are a separate entity supported by your tax dollars. The Rome Floyd County Humane Society receives no government funding or funds from any national animal welfare organizations. We depend solely on the generosity of individual and corporate donors and sponsors.

We support a No Kill policy and one of the Rome Floyd Humane Society's missions is to save as many potential pets as possible from euthanization at Animal Control. Although we are not an animal shelter; as a collection of volunteers, we do rescue, foster and adopt as many death row animals as we can, though space is very limited. All of our rescues are cared for by volunteers in their homes.

Additional adoption info

To adopt a pet from the Humane Society, you must be at least 18 years old. To begin the adoption process, you will need to contact us to fill out an adoption application.

Once you fill out an application, it will be processed and read as soon as possible and an RFHS representative will contact you. We may ask for vet references and to do a homecheck prior to the adoption.

All adoptable animals are fully vetted including spay/neuter and are current on all shots. Their fosters work with them to ensure their health and to determine the individual pet's temperament.

The adoption fees for these pets vary. These fees help offset the veterinarian bills for each particular animal, so that the Society can continue to bring these pets into our homes.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
