Areas Zia Australian Shepherd Club Rescue serves

Zia Australian Shepherd Club supports Australian Shepherd rescue in our local community, typically, but not limited to, New Mexico. We have rescued and successfully placed around 100 Aussies throughout the years as part of our club's activities. Zia ASC maintains a separate fund to pay for spays/neuters, shots, heartworm tests and other medical expenses to help ready a dog for adoption. Members take the dogs in to their homes as foster dogs until a matching new home is found. Our club holds fundraisers throughout the year to pay for medical expenses and transportation costs that exceed the norm and we ask our adopters to reimburse us for the customary costs such as spay/neuter, shots, and heartworm tests.

Zia Australian Shepherd Club Rescue's adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our screening process includes one or more phone conversations with adopters, and if it seems like a match between potential adopter and dog, is followed by a meet and greet. A home visit may be part of the process.

Once it is clear the adopter and the dog are a match, the adopter fills out an adoption agreement. The essentials of the agreement say that the new owner will care for the dog physically and emotionally, the dog will be an indoor/outdoor dog, the dog will receive regular veterinary care, and that if the dog needs to move to a new home sometime later in life, the adopter will contact Zia first.

Adoption fees vary - typically between $150 and $350 depending on the level of medical attention and other expenses the dog required.

About Zia Australian Shepherd Club Rescue

ZIA Australian Shepherd Club of New Mexico became an affiliate of the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) on January 1, 1999. Our mission is to support the activities of ASCA by promoting and sponsoring a variety of local trials and competitions - mostly agility! Our members have earned numerous championships and often represent our affiliate at national ASCA competitions. As part of our club's activities and because we LOVE Australian Shepherds, Zia Australian Shepherd Club supports Aussie Rescue.

Zia Australian Shepherd Club Rescue's adopted pets

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Albuquerque, NM.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
