Areas Toms River Animal Facility serves

We are a municipal shelter and animal control services serving Toms River Township, New Jersey. The staff at the facility are responsible for daily operations. This includes administrative, cleaning/feeding of all animals, adoptions, reclaims, owner relinquishments, and animal control. Our facility is 7,900 square feet with proper space for cats and dogs including quarantine areas for both. The facility also features four outdoor pens and three exercise areas. Our Animal Control Officers are trained and have their animal control state certification.

Toms River Animal Facility's adoption process

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

To visit the facility, come in between the hours of 1pm-4pm. No appointment needed. This includes the weekends!!!

Submit Application

You can submit the application either online at the link or in person while visiting the animal.

3.

Approve Application

The shelter manager carefully reviews applications to make the best decision for the pet.

Sign Adoption Contract

When you are approved, we will schedule an appointment for your to come and pick up your new pet!

5.

Pay Fee

There are no adoption fees.

6.

Take the Pet Home

Make sure to research how to properly introduce your new pet to your home to ensure a happy and healthy transition.

Additional adoption info

If we feel your application is unfit in any way, we have the right to decline you without further reason. You assume all financial responsibility for the pet once you have signed the adoption contract.

OUR MISSION
To provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, rescued, and surrendered animals with the purpose of finding them permanent suitable new homes.
To facilitate the adoption of rescued abandoned, abused, and neglected animals into safe, loving furever homes. Our passion is to provide a safe and healthy transition into their new homes.
To serve our community and adopters by educating and encouraging responsible pet ownership with an emphasis on the need for spaying and neutering.


For your Information:
Toms River Animal Control can only remove sick or injured wildlife. We do not handle nesting wildlife or nuisance wildlife in or around residential homes. For this service, a licensed wildlife removal service will need to be contacted. You can find this information in your yellow pages under wildlife trappers, pest control or contact the facility at (732) 341-1000 Ext: 8450 for a reference. Please be aware this is a paid service.
We never euthanized animals due to space or time constraints, but we may elect to euthanize in the event of a severe, untreatable/debilitating illness, or extremely dangerous behavioral concerns.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
