My Story

I have been at the shelter since found emaciated and starving on the side of a dirt road on Edisto Island 3 years ago. I do not know why I have been here so long, and neither do the volunteers who care for me! They all love me to pieces, and I love them, but I need my forever home. I am a beautiful, 3-year-old female Chinese Shar Pei-Boxer-Staffordshire Terrier mix according to my DNA test. What a wonderful mix of great dogs, huh! I am in search of a family that enjoys playing together and having fun. My favorite pastime is playing fetch when volunteers throw balls for me to chase. I am also content to play alone with my toys, especially the squeaky ones. I am very affectionate toward people (including kids 10+) and enjoy playing
with other dogs. I usually have a male BFF at the shelter but my most recent one was just adopted. The volunteers at the shelter say I am very sweet, loving, smart and easy to train. I quickly learned to walk on leash as well as the “sit” and “down” commands. I weigh 50 lbs, am heart worm negative, up to date on vaccinations, and spayed. If interested in meeting me please call Margaret at 843-869-3869. I look forward to meeting you.

Adoption Process

We require a minimum adoption donation of $125 to $250 depending on the dog and the amount of money we have invested in vet care. Our application form asks adopters to certify that they have a fenced yard or that the pet will be kept indoors and that the pet will be maintained on heartworm and flea preventative and kept up to date on annual shots. The application also asks adopters to certify that they will ask Animal Lovers for assistance in rehoming the pet in the event they cannot keep it for some reason at any time in the future.
