NEW HANOVER COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES ADOPTIONS FOR ALL ANIMALS ARE AT A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.

IF YOU EXPRESS INTREST IN ADOPTING ON OF OUR ANIMAL (S) PLEASE COME TO THE SHELTER AT 180 DIVISION DRIVE WILMINGTON NORTH CAROLINA 28401 DURING ADOPTION HOURS.

ADOPTIONS HOURS ARE FROM 11AM TO 3:45 PM (MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY) AND 8AM TO 12PM (SATURDAY

Adoption Hours:

Monday – Friday 11:00 AM to 3:45 PM

Saturday – 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Adoption fees:

$70 for New Hanover County Residents (cat/dog/ferret)

$60 for Non-County Residents (cat/dog/ferret)

$3 for Birds, Hamsters, Guinea pigs, Rats, Mice, Gerbils, and other small mammals *cage not included for small animals 

Adopter must show valid State ID in order to adopt 

Adoption fees includes the following:

$10 (1 year) county license fee for New Hanover County Residents *non residents do not have to register with the county

spay/neuter (dogs/cats/ferrets)

Rabies Vaccination (cats/dogs/ferrets) *over 4 months old only

1st set of FVRCP feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia (cats only)

Bordetella (dogs only) 

1st set of DHPP (canine distemper vaccine – dogs only)   

1 round of Panacure / Strongid (de-wormer – dogs/cats)

*Please note that to have effective protection against the diseases that we vaccinate against; the new owner would need to follow a recommend vaccination schedule with a Licensed Veterinarian. Boosters or subsequent de-worming may be required at the new owner’s expense.

WE DO NOT PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: 

  • STOOL CHECKS 
  • FOLLOW UP VACCINATIONS OR DE-WORMING

  • FLEA/TICK TREATMENT OR PRODUCTS
  • GROOMING
