My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Violet is as pretty as her name, she has lots of energy and would make and excellent jogging or walking partner. She loves toys and balls and has also been known to find a frisbee great fun..when she came here, Violet had a non contagious skin condition, which is now much improved.. She is a sweet girl, very deserving of a home.

What a volunteer has to say about her: Violet is one of my favorite dogs at the shelter ! She came in scared & kept lowering her head whenever I walked by her run the first day, but I knew she was desperate to be able to trust anyone cause she kept observing me & almost tried to let me pet her. Second day, she got the courage up to let me pet her & as soon as we did, we bonded immediately. The very first time I walked her, she seemed friendly to ALL dogs both female & males, touching noses through the fence & wanting to play, she walked nicely too. She had a skin infection & they had to take her out of her run & put her in ISO room (recovery room-where they put the dogs who are on medication) & thus, had to be in a small cage (much much smaller than her) & she got so stressed out. I am not an expert on dog behavior, but my gut feeling is that she is stressed by the environment. At the new shelter, the walls have plastic on them, so you can hear every single scratching noise, all the dogs make & it even drives ME crazy when I am there cause it is non-stop noise. When I take Violet on a walk, the farther away from the noise & other dogs barking, the more calm she gets. She likes to sit with you in a quiet area & get massaged/pet & will look at you to see if you are looking back at her & sometimes she will give you a gentle kiss. She LOVES tennis balls & her favorite thing is retrieving them. She will chase after them a few times & then will want to just settle with one ball & lie down with it, chewing it. I have never seen her "destroy" the ball, just chew and chew and chew. This seems to calm her down too. After she does that, she is much more relaxed throughout the walk as if she got all that out of her system. She has no issues with leash biting & is not mouthy. She pulls, but will walk nicely with a cani collar. She has medium to high energy, so will need someone who will give her proper play time & walked at least twice a day. Once she is over with her playtime, she usually lies on her bed & I know she had enough. Violet is not fearful but I would say still a little timid with strangers, but all it takes is for her to know you are a kind person (if you speak softly to her) and she will warm up to you. She is very LOYAL to the volunteers that she knows will walk her & when I see her thru the glass when I first come in, her eyes tell me that she is saying "you came back for me..I knew you would...I was waiting all week for you"! Violet is so sweet. Nothing would make me happier than to see her find a home. She has had a hard life & deserves better.
