My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

One day, 3 small dogs were put into a pet carrier, taken to a local vet, and told, "put them down." Then the owner walked away. That is the beginning of Baxter's story as we know it. He was taken with 2 other small dogs to Colbert County Animal Shelter, which had just been hit with 122 dogs from a massive hoarding case. Baxter's chances were not good. That's where we came in! One of the 3 was adopted, and Baxter and a small female, Aria, came to Black Bear Animal Rescue to be given medical care, love, stability, and the opportunity to be adopted.

Baxter is an adorable, submissive boy, weighing only 12 lbs. He has been through an awfully lot...abandoned and then taken to a smelly, loud shelter. He felt it was his job to protect both he and his friend, Aria. Once he realized he was safe with us, he let go of his burden and now he just wants to be snuggled and played with. He is a young dog, approximately 2 years old. He will win your heart with his "bunny hop" on his back legs for a treat. He's a salt 'n pepper, wire-haired boy, and black is his dominant color. Housebroken, crate trained, and absolutely adorable. Baxter likes dogs that don't overwhelm him as long as you give him a chance to warm up to them, so overly dominant dogs might not be a good match. Cats are an unknown, but he is eager to please his humans so he should be ok. He rides in a car like a champ!
