My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Murphy is the happiest dog in the world, even if he isn't the luckiest. This young German Shepherd Dog-Akita mix puppy loves dogs, cats, people – anyone and everyone he can shower with affection. He has good doggy manners but no formal obedience training yet, and he gets an A for potty training.

This little guy was born with a birth defect leaving him with no hip sockets and knees that are out of alignment. He can walk and run, but his rear legs are obviously not straight and he wears out quickly. Hiking and running are not good activities for Murphy; he would love a home with a pool and someone to teach him how to swim so he can get lots of low-impact exercise.

As Murphy ages (he was 6 months old in January 2014), he'll likely develop arthritis since his body is out of balance. He is an otherwise healthy puppy who doesn't know that he's disabled. Our orthopedic surgeon has recommended that he stay as is rather than get surgery, which may cause worse issues and is unlikely to correct his birth defect.

Murphy hopes to find that special adopter who will love him even though he's not perfect.

As Murphy ages (he was 6 months old in January 2014), he'll likely develop arthritis since his body is out of balance. He is an otherwise healthy puppy who doesn't know that he's disabled. We are saving money to pay for the orthopedic surgery that will correct the issues as much as possible and leave him in the best shape as he ages.

Murphy hopes to find that special adopter who will love him even though he's not perfect and who will be able to provide him great medical care for years to come.

In the meantime, any family who would be willing to foster Murphy so he can wait for adoption in more comfortable quarters should contact us at info@fureverfriendsrescue.org.

As our veterinary orthopedic surgeon evaluates his case, we'll post more information on his webpage: www.fureverfriendsrescue.org/adopt_murphy.html. (You can donate to his surgery there too!)
