My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BERTIE IS BEING LOVINGLY FOSTERED IN A PRIVATE HOME IN ARIZONA

Bertie is just one of those girls who wants to have fun!. Bertie is around two years old now and still acts like a puppy at times. This black and tan girl is one of five dogs that came from a hoarder's home, where she lived on concrete floors in an unhealthy situation. The owner realized that they were not being fair to these dogs and agreed to turn them over to rescue. She was tormented by fleas and itchy skin when she was first rescued, but a trip to the vet and some TLC has fixed all that. Now her pretty coat is a reflection of her beautiful inner self.

At just under 26 pounds with a natural tail that shows her joy, Bertie is full of enthusiasm. Maybe because she did not get enough attention at her first home, she is quite attached to being with people. While she is a mixed breed, she looks very Griff and fully embraces the Griffy creed that no human should ever be alone. She is happy to snuggle with you, play with you, and be your best friend. She certainly doesn't care if you have another dog or two. All she wants is a chance to be a part of your life.

Bertie is going to need some special attention. She does well in the confines of her home environment, but needs to be socialized in the outside world. Her foster mom has encountered some physical limitations, so Bertie has not gotten much outside exposure. If you have patience, you can be sure that you will be rewarded with a loyal and loving companion. After all, that's her job!

Bertie is a little leery of males and will need a patient male who will allow her the time to adjust. She is taking nicely to lead training and uses pee pads, and she is familiar with a doggy door. Like all dogs in transition, she will need to be shown the ropes of house training and adjusting to her new life when she goes to her forever home. We would suggest her new home sign her up for an obedience class. This will help her socialization skills as well as let her know that life does have some rules to follow.

Bertie lives to play, and she loves to be loved. Whether it is a toy or her foster mom's five-pound Griff, she gives it her all. When she's done playing, she sleeps like a rock. Play hard and sleep hard - that's her motto, and boy does she enjoy a soft bed after living on cement!

Bertie is currently being fostered in Arizona. She is up to date on her vaccinations. By the time she goes to her forever home, she will be spayed and microchipped.

If you are interested in adoption please fill out our Adoption Application. If you would like more information, please contact Vicki at vboneill@optonline.net

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
