My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cooper is called a farm Terrier which is a breed created in the NW. He is a cute a mixed breed dog, with DNA testing identifying his primary heritage as Akita, with Airedale Terrier, Chihuahua, Dachshund, Shetland Sheepdog, and Tibetan Terrier. He is neutered and chipped. His birth date is estimated as January 2006, so he is now about 8 yrs old. We adopted him from R.E.D. at about 11 mo old. He is up-to-date on all vaccines and health care. He weighs about 70 # and is in good health. Cooper has wavy reddish-brown hair that turns lighter in summer months – he does need brushing daily but enjoys being groomed. He is generally a sweetheart and happy-go-lucky but does have some anxiety around loud noises such as vacuum cleaners, fireworks, and thunder. He gets along with dogs and cats, including our 9 yo spayed female dog, Nora*, and our 11 yo spayed female cat, Lexi.
Cooper has lived with us since his adoption and is well-behaved in our home. He also spends time in our heated garage (accessed by doggie door), covered patio, and chain-link fenced back yard. He is boarded at a kennel with Nora when we are away and does very well there with staff and other dogs. Cooper likes going for walks, sunbathing in the yard on his “hill” or laying under some large bushes on warm days. He really loves the beach or other open spaces. He also likes taking it easy in the house, especially if it’s next to his owners or other visitors/guests in our home. He sleeps at night on a dog bed or rug in the bedroom area of our house also close to us and her animal companions. Cooper doesn’t have any bad habits – no digging or chewing – as long as he has a Nylabone or other sturdy toy to gnaw on as needed. Cooper has not been around young children. He does fine with older children and adults and seems to enjoy making friends with visitors to our home who are friendly to him.

*His friend Nora also needs a new home too. A good home is our main concern but– it would be preferable if she and Cooper could stay together.
Here is Nora's info. Bio for NORA – 2/21/14 - owner-held
Nora is a 7 to 9 yr old female dog, who appears to be a Husky-mix – we see this in both her appearance and her Husky-like behavior. She is spayed and chipped. Her birthdate is estimated to be about July 2002 and 2004. We rescued her in 2006 from the local animal shelter, where she was had been surrendered by her owner for reasons not clear. Nora is up-to-date on all her vaccines and is in good health. She weighs about 55#. She has short hair which is light in color – she does need some brushing, especially when seasons change. Nora is a sweet and gentle girl, who gets along well with both cats and dogs, including our 11 year old spayed female cat, Lexi, and our 8 yr old neutered male dog, Cooper*.
Nora has lived with us since her adoption and is well-behaved in our home. She also spends time in our heated garage (accessed by doggie door), covered patio, and chain-link fenced back yard. She is boarded at a kennel with Cooper when we are away and does very well there with staff and other dogs. Nora is energetic and enjoys going on walks, playing with Cooper and Lexi, and sunbathing on her “hill” in the back yard. She does enjoy digging a den for herself if given the opportunity, which we have allowed in our back yard. Otherwise, she does not dig or chew or engage in any destructive behavior. She does like having a Nylabone or other sturdy dog toy to chew on when resting in the house, which she prefers to do close to us, Cooper, and Lexi. She sleeps at night on a dog bed or rug in the bedroom area of our house, also close to her us and her animal companions. Nora has not been around young children, and although somewhat shy, she does fine with older children and adults.

*Cooper also needs a new home – it would be preferable if he and Nora could stay together.
