My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coal: 10 Year Old Black Non-Neutered Male 80 Pounds AKC Registered
Daisy: 8 Year Old Yellow Spayed Female 75 Pounds AKC Registered

We would like them to be adopted together.

Lab Rescue got a call from a friend of the owners of Daisy and Coal and wanted to see what we could do for the two dogs. She knew they were great dogs and they deserved so much more than what they were getting with their current owners. The volunteer rescue rep with Lab Rescue went to meet the dogs out in Brentwood and knew right away these two dogs would be great for the Lab rescue program.

Coal and Daisy have been with the same owner since they were 8 weeks of age. Each of them were purchased from the same breeder in the Central Valley. The owners have six children and thought each child needed their own dog. Coal and Daisy was raised in a home with children of a variety of ages and with a variety of dogs. Coal was the first one purchased as they wanted their son to hunt with him. (The son never did hunt with Coal.) Daisy was the second one purchased as they loved Coal and his temperament and got Daisy for their daughter. The other four dogs in the home are smaller dogs and are allowed to be in the home as they do not shed. Daisy & Coal started as inside dogs but as they grew and became larger dogs the owner decided that it would be best that the dogs stay outside in a 12 by 12 area. (The husband does not like dog hair in his home and the dogs shed too much!) All of the children are out of the home now, the husband has had back issues for the last four years and the dogs seldom get out of the 12 by 12 pen for any exercise or attention. The rescue rep gets several of these calls on a yearly basis and was expecting a very bad situation. When she came to the home to meet the two dogs she was pleasantly surprised at the nice condition of the back yard and the decent condition of the dogs. It does seem that Coal and Daisy have had a few litters but the owners made it seem they were all by accident and not due to any breeding operation.

Coal's story: what a HANDSOME BOY and what a GOOD BOY

(There was a mix up at the Vet so Coal still needs to be neutered.)

You would never think Coal was ten years of age. He is in excellent shape and is a beautiful Lab. The condition and the temperament of Coal pretty much goes back to his breeding. (Most Labs we evaluate that are neglected and that are banned to the back yard are in pretty bad shape and have behavioral issues.) Coal is one happy, playful, spunky Lab that loves to run and swim. When he was out for a walk he would greet all other dogs with no issues. He loves to go for walks and when he sees the leash he gets very excited. (He does need to be walked with a correction collar as he has not been walked on a leash for a few years.) Coal has grown up with children his entire life, he was housebroken and when he is allowed in the house he does not have any accidents. At first he will jump up to greet you but if you tell him off he will stay down. He loves to go for car rides, loves to swim a few laps in the owner's pool, does not dig in the yard, does not bark when left alone in the back yard, does not have any separation anxiety and does not have any leash aggression with other dogs. Coal will come when called and he can be walked off leash by your side and would be a great hiking companion. He is fine with any dog he meets and he will greet them with a wag of his tail! He has not been around cats so we are not sure if he can be in a home with cats. When the rescue rep asked the owner about Coal's medical/vet background the owner said he had not been to a vet since he was a few years old. That he was a very healthy dog and there was no reason to take him to the vet. Lab Rescue got Coal into the vet and he was updated on his shots, microchiped, full blood panel was run, senior screen done, well exam done, heartworm test and the vet called Lab Rescue and said Coal is in wonderful shape! He passed all tests and has no health issues.

We would love for Coal and Daisy to be adopted together as they have been with each other for eight years. They are a bonded pair and spend many hours with each other. These two are the typical Labs - two happy, happy dogs no matter what life sends their way!
