My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do you believe in miracles.....they say I am a miracle. I am JoJo and I am filled with gratitude for the wonderful Humane Society volunteers who rescued me. I am a very soft-colored yellow lab, born approximately in 2007 /2008. I am always a sweet and loving little lady....I've been good all of my life...honest.

They found me, abandoned and starving to death way out in the country...where no one would have found me. They think I had had a life of many, many beatings as I had extremely submissive behavior...I was so afraid of people and everything in the world that all I would do was hide. Someone had also tried to kill me by giving me anti-freeze to drink. It is so hard to believe that anyone could be so cruel to such a sweetheart as me. It is also
very hard to understand how I could have survived so much abuse and neglect.

When I first came to the shelter, I would not come out of my dog house for weeks, especially if anyone was around. It took all of my courage to come out....and then, they say, I would cower in the corner of my kennel...I was so, so frightened that someone would hurt me, even though I am always a good girl. All of the volunteers tried to come in and spend a little time with me each week so I could get accustomed to people and begin to learn that all people are not bad. The volunteers so patiently came to my gate to talk to me and bring me treats...after several months, I decided to try to trust them. I would slowly come to the gate and I was always so happy that they would pet me and give me treats...no one ever touched me gently before....and no one ever touched me without hurting me before, either. There was one special volunteer who would come out several times a week...she never gave up on me. She had such persistence and patience, and because of her love and kindness, I have just blossomed! Now I meet her at my gate and wait for her to take me for a walk....she talks so gently to me and tells me what good girl I am and that I am going to live happily ever after with people who will love me. This lady gave me new life... a life where I now love to be petted, taken for walks, to eat treats (lots of treats) and to know that there are many lovingly kind people in the world. I never have to be hungry again, to be beaten / hurt or be afraid again...that life is over.

I even have a new fur friend that I share a kennel with. His name is Harlo and he has really helped me not be so shy. We play together and it is so nice to have people friends and fur friends. I am now a happy girl - inside or outside! They say that I actually 'SMILE' on a regular basis....and you should see my tail wagging wildly when they have treats.

I am ready for my new forever family now ...they tell me that a loving family will just shower me with love and kindness. I know my new family will have a special place in their heart for me...they'll know that I might need a little time to adjust but that, when they do, they will have the most loving girl in the world! I have come so far on my own with the help of my volunteer angels, won't you come and walk with me now ....for the rest of my life? You and me...a family filled with love. Yes, miracles do happen........
