Mavis is sweet and gentle, plays with the smallest pups lying down. She is affectionate, smart and more laid back than some of the other pups. She will be an awesome companion perhaps even a good therapy prospect?

Here is what her foster home had to say in the first week: Mavis is one of the sweetest puppies I've ever met with the cutest, biggest paws I've ever seen on a puppy. She bonds quickly to one main person in the family and will be that person's shadow. She loves being hugged and kissed by the kids and is very calm and gentle. She has been around kids from 6 months old to 12 years old. She is learning not to jump up to say hello or lick faces. Mavis plays well with other dogs of all sizes and greets people very calmly. She would be fine as an only dog, but would also LOVE to have a dog buddy to play with.

She is such a smart girl too! So far she has NEVER had an accident in the house and always asks to go out with a little whine while she sits by the door if she has to go potty, she also learned 'sit' in about 5 minutes! Her leash skills are getting better every day. She does as well on leash as a 13 week old puppy should. She doesn't pull a lot, just criss crosses and almost walks into things because she's looking around so much. Mavis knows sit, go pee, outside, and on your mat (all in 3 days!). She needs to work on 'wait' at the door and on stairs as she likes to rush through these areas.

Mavis is a very vocal little girl and needs her new family to help her work on not barking when she hears a new noise/sees something new or sees another dog. She is already getting better at not barking when police or ambulances go by with their sirens on. So far she will bark at each new dog she sees before calmly greeting them, but she will stop barking to sit for a treat. With a little more work she will understand that she doesn't need to alert everyone that she sees a potential new doggy friend.

Mavis is a fantastic pup and any family will be lucky to have her. So far she is very laid back and with a bit of training will likely grow into a very calm, well rounded family dog.

Puppies are cute as all heck but do come with the responsibility of providing training to raise them to be good canine citizens. While we start all our dogs on housebreaking and they do learn quite a bit from following the older dogs outside you can expect to put in the effort to continue the right behaviours and curb the incorrect ones. You will need to walk them often and praise them like they invented a way to turn rock into gold.

Adopters should also plan on taking a puppy training class or two. This is great socialization for your pup and can provide useful tips for a lifetime of ‘good dog’. Make sure you have a sense of humour with pups, they sometimes try really, really hard to please but get it all wrong and do the wrong thing when they meant to impress you with their cleverness. These humourous antics can include bringing you your underwear when you have company (hey you might need em), tipping the water bowl (the cat dared me), or tearing up the newspaper (maybe he disagreed with the editorial). Try to maintain a sense of humour while guiding puppy to the right ways of doing things, eventually he will be an adult dog and so much a part of your family that you couldn't imagine life without him.

Pets can be flown to new homes. Application and homecheck required for all homes, the dog will go to the best home for the dog.
