Hard to believe that sweetheart Nakita ended up in a shelter; we can’t understand why in the world this darling dog would be homeless. But Fuzzy Pawz Rescue is very glad we noticed her and placed her in foster care as she is an absolute JOY to be around.
This silly, smiley girl charms everyone she meets; she is just one of those dogs that make you smile and that you can’t help but want to give loves to. Nakita loves nothing more than snuggling up next to you and receiving love and attention, for which she will pay you back with warm kisses. Even though Nakita weighs 90 pounds (she is on a diet and loosing weight), in her mind she is much smaller and she wants to be just as close to you as possible, sometimes even trying to sit on your lap. This isn’t to say that she is overly needy though; she is not pushy and in your face unless you want her to be.
She deals with a wide variety of personalities at her foster home between adults, dogs, cats, and kids. She takes is all in stride and does excellent with all of them. She is extremely well behaved and will respond immediately to the slightest correction.
She walks well on a leash and rides beautifully in the car. She will sit in the back seat if both front seats are occupied, but if the passenger seat is open she would very much like to sit in the front and smile at you and the passing view. She is housetrained and the foster mom has not had a single accident in the house, even when she first came to her foster home.
Nakita is about 7-8 years old but she certainly has the spunk and zest for life of a younger girl. Her back end, however, does feel the years a little more harshly and she gets sore with arthritis. Her forever home must be able to keep her on the joint supplement we have her on. She would not be a good hiking or running partner; however she will feel much better if her home can take her for 2 short walks a day to help her lose weight and rebuild some muscle mass in her hind end.
Nakita does have a dry nose and it will crack and bleed if coconut oil is not applied daily. She is very eager and happy to receive some of that every day, as she licks the extra off her foster mom’s finger with delight.
This sweet girl had a tumor on her leg when she came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue but it has been removed and she has been given a clean bill of health by her doctors.
