My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We'd love to find these three a home or sanctuary together. They're a bonded family and oh so good together. But that's no easy task. Just in case there's someone out there with a perfect situation, these dogs would do well in an active sanctuary. They love to watch activity, interact with people. We've learned that at one point there were 10 dogs in the home and these, particularly the two younger boys were raised by other dogs with little human guidance. We don't know how they would be with other dogs, individually or together so in our dream world they'd be in their own space but still within a canine community.

While hoping for that very special sanctuary situation, Castore, Apollo, and Mama Venus need more than we can provide within the confines of their limited space with not much to look at and keep them occupied. They've found out what it means to have a life and they want more. They've become vibrant, healthy, affection seeking dogs that would love to find human companionship for life. It's time for them to start looking for their forever home(s).

Castore is a handsome 2 year old Golden Retriever-Chow mix. He's gentle, reserved and slow to trust. Once he does though, he looks to that person for guidance. He loves people that are gently in control and has shown us that he is capable of bonding to a person and bonding deeply. Once he knows he is your best friend he will be a friend for life.
Castore is smart and quick to learn when he's concluded that you are his guide and leader. He's just discovering how much fun it is to follow a person’s lead. It's very new to him.It is possible he could make friends and bond with a gentle female dog.

Mama Venus and Apollo: We would really like to keep these two together if possible. They're like a happy old married couple. They sleep beside each other and just work well as a pair. Both are more social than Castore or his brother Pollux who is still in special needs foster (and finally starting to break through). It appears at some point Venus and Apollo were part of a family unit. They both can be managed on leashes and like going out. They are quick to welcome strangers as new friends.

Mama is always the first to ask for affection. We think she's a heeler shepherd mix, about 8 years old, arthritic, a bit slow moving and likes watching life from the comfort of her favorite soft pillows and beds, She's had a hard life and she appreciates a little bit of canine luxury.

Her favorite thing in the world is a belly rub and she'll flop over anytime anywhere for snuggles. She has a strong prey drive and we've had quite a time keeping her away from all the toads and lizards. She's a good hunter despite her age and clouding eyes. She's had to have her mouth rinsed out with a hose more than once after catching poisonous toads.

Everyone falls in love with Apollo. He's funny and sweet and has somehow forgiven the world for the rough hand he was dealt. He thinks he's much younger than he is, and he gets very excited and "talks" when he sees people he knows or first gets up in the morning...not barking, just lots of little happy-noises.

All three of these dogs are very loving and have become responsive and interactive with humans. They will take patience and lots of love but they have shown us that they are loving, trainable, and in the right environment can continue to gain confidence and learn how to live in a real home with people who genuinely love them.

We don't know what their perfect home or homes look like and would love to hear from anyone considering giving any or all of these wonderful dogs a new life.
