My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is April. I'm an approx. 8 year old bichon frise. I'm told I have big, beautiful eyes, which I'm sure you noticed in my pictures! I'm just so happy that with those pretty eyes of mine I'm now able to see more than rows of cages in the puppy mill I came from. Thank goodness Safe Haven Bichon and Friends rescued me so I can have the rest of my life to enjoy all the things dogs are supposed to enjoy--the sun on my back, soft grass under my feet, quality food, soft blankets and beds to sleep on, and most importantly, people who will love me just for being an adorable, sweet little girl, not for the money I make for them breeding!

At my foster home there is another fluffy white dog named Teddy, and I really like to have him for company, especially since he's been a family pet his whole life and he's showing me the ropes. I'm still a little shy about being picked up because back in the mill I wasn't handled very nicely, but I'm slowly learning that hands can be kind and loving. My favorite part of the day is mealtime! I love to eat! I get very excited and dance around when it's time to be fed. I'm a pretty mellow girl who just likes to lie around and relax most of the day.

Since being rescued, I've been spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative) and put on preventative, dewormed, vaccinated, and I had a dental cleaning. I'm being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and I hope my new family will continue to feed me a high-quality food for the rest of my life. I'm being fostered in Lakeville, MN, and my adoption fee is $250. I need to go to a home with another socialized dog and a fenced yard for safety. If you're interested in adopting me, please contact Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.

The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters need to come to the foster home to adopt.
