My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Marie, an 8 year old bichon frise. My best buddy here in the pictures with me is Hazel, a 6 year old pekingese. We are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. Our bond started when we were both rescued from a puppy mill and went to Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue together. Right away, we started cuddling together like we knew we were the new kids on the block. Our bond has just grown from there.

We both enjoy being outside in the fenced yard at our foster home. I (Marie) every once in awhile get a sudden burst of exuberance and do the bichon blitz, where I run at full speed around the yard. Now Hazel, since she's not a bichon, does more of a trot with her beautiful red hair flowing and her tail up to show her happiness. Hazel really likes to lie in the sun and feel the warmth. We're both just so happy to be free from the puppy mill and experience the warm sun on our backs and the soft grass under our feet. We also enjoy wrestling with each other and just being silly sometimes.

I (Marie) am a very petite little girl weighing only about 8 lbs. Hazel weighs about 12 lbs. We're both quite shy and that's why it's important that we be adopted together. Puppy mill survivors take comfort in having another dog as a companion because that's all we've ever known. We're both getting more and more comfortable with our foster parents. I (Marie) love to lie on my back and have my foster mom rub my tummy. I just close my eyes and soak up all the love. Hazel is a little more independent and likes to just sit near our foster parents at their feet.

Since being rescued, we've both been spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative) and put on preventative, dewormed, vaccinated, and had a dental cleaning. We're being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and we hope our new family will continue to feed us a high-quality food for the rest of our lives. We're being fostered in Rockford, IL, and our combined adoption fee is $500. If you're interested in adopting us, please email Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.

The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters need to come to the foster home to adopt.
