My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ivy. She was an owner release when their life got to hectic for a dog. Ivy is 5 years old, completely house trained, crate trained, leash trained. She loves to play, loves the car and sleeping in bed. She is happy to see whomever comes over and gets along with the resident dogs (two Shih Tzus) and the cat.

Ivy lived in a home with 7 children, 2 to 16 years old so she is good with kids. But living with a lot of children didn't help Ivy's waist line. When she came to us she was very, very overweight, both from over feeding and from lack of exercise. We have her slimmed down but not where she needs to be. Ivy is in need of an owner that will continue to get her down to a healthy weight and KEEP her there. We currently have her on a species appropriate, balanced raw diet which is the best way to help a dog lose weight and build muscle. It would be great if she could stay on that diet. She will also need to live with someone who is active with their dogs; takes them for walks, likes to play, etc.

Ivy is true Pug. She is funny, and fun and snorts through life. She wants to be involved in everything. She is loyal and affectionate. She is great with a bath and to clean her wrinkled face ever few days. She takes her green pepper treats politely (she is on a diet) and is not a barker.

Ivy will do well with children over 7 and can live without or without another dog. Ivy's adoption will require a fenced yard and someone that is not gone a typical 40 hour work week; someone that works from home, works very part time or is retired.

Ivy's adoption is a lifetime commitment so if you are not familiar with the Pug breed please learn about them. They do not do well in the heat, they DO snort like little piggies and do require that their face wrinkles be cleaned several times a week. They require a lifetime of weight monitoring in order to keep them healthy and they do shed a fair amount. But - they have an exceptional personality and make a wonderful family dog. Pug owners are a devoted group.

If you think that your home and lifestyle will fit with Ivy's needs please e-mail learymjri@aol.com or call Martha at 330-262-0515 or 330-466-3667 for more information or an application.
