My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"From Feral to Furry Friend" looking for Human BFF!

*Experienced Adopter Needed*

Requirements:
Physically Fenced Yard
Single Person or Couple without Children
Patience, Understanding, Commitment and Experience

Pumpkin is like a super smart child who knows how to get away with things and will take advantage of the loop holes! Pumpkin was born on the streets until being trapped when she was 6 months old. She was overly fearful of humans, other animals, lights, noises, and any aspect of being a companion animal and living indoors.

She was rehabilitated and has made magnificent strides! She was adopted from us when she was around a year old and has recently been returned due to some significant changes in the family structure which resulted in undesirable reactions from Pumpkin. Pumpkin did end up mildly biting one person and nipping another. No medical attention was required.

Now Pumpkin is about a 2 1/2 - 3 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. Upon her return, her behavior had regressed slightly and she had to readjust to foster siblings again and following the rules. Pumpkin is very alert and attentive and quickly adapts to positive reinforcement. She remembers and knows what proper behavior is but would take advantage of a guardian who is inconsistent with their direction. Even after two years, Pumpkin remembered when to go into her crate, when dinner time is, where she eats her food, etc. at her foster home! She didn't forget a single routine!

This golden girl is very loyal and loving!! She will shower you with kisses and snuggle with you on the couch or bed. She does, however, have some quirky behaviors. For example, car lights reflecting on the living rooms walls as a car passes causes her to chase them and bark. New noises (which are limited now of course) make her nervous and she looks for comfort in your arms and licking your face. She still needs positive association to new dogs. New dogs are "stranger danger" to her and she may snarl and snap if her guardian is not paying attention to the proximity of the new dog.

She would be ok with another dog in the home as long as that other dog is not overly dominant/confident. She does get protective of her toys and treats. She does give warning but it's physical, not audible so you'd have to be paying attention. Obviously, if her sibling is well socialized to the behavior, it wouldn't be an issue.

We realize this profile doesn't make Pumpkin sound "attractive" to the average adopter. But we have to give this girl a chance!! There are so many different homes out there that there just has to be one for her! If her foster mom wasn't a foster mom, she would keep her! Despite her quirks, she is such a loving , devoted girl! She really just wants to be loved and guided. She makes a great jogging partner, hiking partner, etc. She loves the outdoors!! She'd also be great for teaching tricks or doing agility.. though I don't say that based on energy level.. I say that due to her ability to learn.

This dog has an amazing sole. You can see it in her eyes. She's a survivor! We can only hope there is a home out there for her where she can feel safe (it's all about feeling safe with her!!) and be loved!

If you are an experienced owner (i.e. understand dog behavior, mannerisms and cognitive abilities), please consider Pumpkin! She is looking for a human BFF !!!!
