My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Not many dogs can say that a garage sale saved their life, but Lucky sure can. This gorgeous dog actually had an owner, a terrible one, but an owner nonetheless. His life consisted of being tied to a tree with a tiny dog house and absolutely no interaction with people or other dogs. Every time his owners would walk by him, he would wag his tail in hopes that was the day they would pet him, but that never happened. He had no idea, but there was a very caring lady that was concerned about him just down the street and soon enough their paths would cross.

This nice lady noticed one day he was removed from his tether and it seemed the owners had kicked him out of the yard because he was across the street for days watching his old spot in the yard. He was even there in one day in the pouring rain, but it seems he didn’t know what else to do. Several days later, she saw him darting in and out of traffic at an intersection a few miles away and she assumed that the owners had taken him there and dumped him off since he hadn’t left the area before. She was hesitant to pick him up when he was next to their home, but once he was in traffic, she tried to rescue him to no avail and then he was back across the street from his old house again later in the week.

Then came his big day…his owners had a garage sale and he was sitting at the end of their driveway watching the action. This kind lady and her friend were driving by and decided to get out and just ask if they could have the dog. The owners said “Sure, you can have him because we don’t want him anymore”. They opened the car door and Lucky (named in that instant) jumped in and was on his way to finding love and happiness.

Lucky went straight to the vet and was estimated at 2 years old, had heartworms and was underweight. He was neutered, treated for heartworms, fully vaccinated and given a clean bill of health after a couple of months. Lucky has been in a foster home for the last month and is learning at a very fast pace things that a puppy would be learning for the first time. He’s making great progress and learning to socialize with people and other dogs. He’s crate and potty trained and he responds very well to verbal commands. We don’t think this guy ever owned a toy, but he’s coming around and starting to show interest in his new belongings. He likes belly rubs, loves food and treats. He does not appreciate fireworks and thunder, which makes us sad that he had to be outside for those so many times in his first two years. He doesn’t bark much, but he does bark if someone comes to the front door or into the back yard when he’s hanging out back there. He’s proven to be a great alert system for his foster family.

He’s great with all people and would even be a good addition to a family with older children because he’s a gentle guy. He has a bad habit of jumping up on people when he’s excited and his foster is working with him on that. Lucky loves to play with other dogs and initiates play with dogward dog type bow. He hasn’t ever been given the opportunity to play with other dogs, so he is quite exuberant about it. He is still having a difficult time knowing when the other dogs are no longer interested in playing and continues to pounce and play, which can be a bit of a nuisance to the other pup. He would be a great single dog or a second dog for a family that is willing to continue working with him and has a very playful and very tolerant dog already.

Lucky wants to continue his lucky streak…rescue, foster and now a family to really show him love and affection. He’s a nice boy in need of some patience and direction. He is available for adoption and his adoption fee is $150. He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and healthy.
