Nico is a three-year-old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. We think he is also mixed with Dachshund because he is very low to the ground. Nico has a short to medium coat with beautiful markings, and a cute puppy look to him. He weighs approximately 12 lbs. Nico is a very quiet, sweet, loving, and warm dog who is very people-oriented. He likes to hang out with you wherever you are. He attaches to a person quickly. He does like to follow me everywhere I go; however, it is not bothersome to me because he is so relaxed about it.
Nico is fine with all dogs big and small but he does not seem to have a huge dependency on the other dogs. He has little interest in socially interacting with, or playing with other dogs; however, he typically shares pet beds with the other dogs. He seems to like the other dogs around but wants them to be calm and not up in his face. I have no idea how he is around cats. A great thing about Nico is that in spite of being calm, gentle and quiet, he also has an occasional spunk about him too and may even eventually show a playful side. Nico rides well in the car, and can walk nicely on the leash but at the same time he can cuddle in your lap or on a pet bed or floor near you while you work at the computer.
Nico is adaptable to be placed in several environments; however, his best fit is where the people are not gone for extended hours on a daily basis. He is a sedate, companion dog. There is nothing “fun” or exciting about Nico. He is not going to have a blast at Dog Park, or hike, or take long walks. His best fit is with people or a person who just wants to have a loyal companion who will take easy walks, go on occasional car rides, (he will not embarrass you in public or be hard to control in public) but mainly, hang out at home and be a homebody.
Nico is neutered, has had his DAHPP and Bordetella shots (an adopter would need to get his rabies vaccine when they license him) and is also micro-chipped. He is crate-trained and sleeps quietly in his crate during the night, but also sleeps well in the human bed. He is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment).
