Our long term resident, Captain, has seen many other dogs come and go while he has been at the shelter waiting and waiting for his forever home. This boy loves toys, going for a brisk walk and car rides. He is also housebroken and knows basic commands. "Cappy" thrives on being with his person and he is BIG enough to fill all your affection needs. Captain loves mental and physical simulation to keep him happy/content.
Captain has a high prey drive and loves to chase squirrels, chipmunks, etc. and will dig under fences to try to get to them. His adopter needs to understand that he loves to eat so much that he needs to be left alone while he enjoys his meals and treats. He would probably do best as an only dog and in a home with no/older children. This Shepherd mix boy is about 6-7 years old and 55 pounds.
Captain would do best in a home with the following criteria:
-No kids, other dogs/cats/pets
-Experienced dog owner
-Low foot traffic home (non active home without lots of people coming in and out)
Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes.

Captain, a Sparta German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever for sale in Sparta, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Sparta.
Rescues and shelter volunteers in Sparta already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Sparta breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Sparta paves the way for another one to be saved.
