My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From the words of Winston’s foster mom, “He stole my heart with the first sloppy puppy kiss and his lean into me”. That is the personality that we have come to know from Winston. He is a huge love bug and wants nothing more than a life full of love, fun and compassion.

Winston was rescued from a place that required he remain in his crate nearly all day and night. He was often left alone for hours at a time, not treated in a friendly manner when attention was given and he was accustomed to loud, harsh voices during those brief interactions. It would make sense if he came out of that with bitterness, but once he was freed and taken in by a loving, caring family, his big heart was evident from the get go.

Winston is a Mastiff mix, nearly 2 years old and is 110 pounds of pure happiness and joy. His mild mannered ways are really fantastic for a large breed. Mastiffs are known for their gentle, calm nature and for being family friendly and adoring companions. Winston is currently being fostered by a family that is all about dogs. They have quite the pack with their own 4 pups that range from 40 to 120 pounds and 7 months to 8 years old. This is pretty telling that Winston loves all sizes, ages, personalities and breeds. He does very much enjoy playing and spending time with the dogs in his foster home, so we feel that a furry sibling with a similar energy level would be very beneficial for him.

His foster home has a huge yard for exploring, but Winston is not too concerned about that, he’d rather sit on the porch with his human and doggy buddies. Although his energy level is low to medium, he does need to get out a couple of times per day to stretch his legs. He has a couple of energy spurts per day that last a few minutes, but otherwise he’d be more than happy with a long walk or two each day. He lives with adults and no kids currently, but has been very sweet and polite to the children that he’s encountered. Winston could probably coexist with children very easily, but his size will most likely guarantee a few bumps and unintentional knock downs for the little ones. Older kids might have better footing around this big boy.

Tug of war, fetch, catch and sunbathing on the grass are a few of Winston’s favorite outdoor activities that he enjoys so much. It is quite entertaining when he runs to catch the ball, misses it and then he throws his massive body on top of the ball to ensure that he’s still in possession of it. Inside activities include snuggling with anyone, watching movies and letting people use him as a warm ottoman for their feet. He is eager to learn and even more concerned with making sure his family is happy.

He is kennel trained, house broken and walks like a perfect gentleman on his leash. He is still learning commands, but has mastered a few of the basics. Winston has never met a stranger and is good with all people. He’s the perfect addition to any family as long as you can share your space and deal with some drool from his Mastiff jowls.

Winston is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped and ready to join his family. He is available for adoption locally (in Houston, Texas) and also out of state. His local adoption fee is $300 and his adoption fee outside of Houston is $500 to cover his airline flight, his travel crate, comfy bed and required health documents to board the airline. If you need a big snuggle bug in your life, please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org today. Winston is waiting for you!
