My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 03/21/2015: Mila is a sweet little puppy who hasn't had the best start in life after being abandoned by her original owners and saved by her new owner. After only a month in her new home, her leg was caught in a fold-up bed and she sustained a fracture of the distal radius and ulna of her right front leg. Her owner was unable to afford the costs of surgery and surrendered her to the kind vet who splinted her leg and contacted UYR. Being a puppy, she managed during the first night in the foster home to slip out of the splint, so back to the UYR vet she went.

The area that was broken (the 2 bones of the forearm close to the wrist area) is not an unusual area for dogs and cats to get broken bones. Because the original splint was intended to be a temporary "fix", it appeared that Mila's bones were not lined up perfectly. Most young dogs and cats (under 1 yr) who get broken bones tend to heal well with a splint (i.e. bandaging, splinting), but at times the bone may be a little crooked. UYR's vet put Mila under anesthesia and straightened out the bone as much as possible; even with a slightly crooked leg, her leg should be fully functional when healed.

Mila is a very sweet and super smart little puppy who is on the road to recovery now that she is under UYR's competent and loving care. She has received her first set of puppy vaccinations and has been spayed. For Mila's foster dads, it will be hard to keep her quiet so that her leg will heal properly, but with some doggie sedatives and being in the crate except for loving and pottying, she should be ready for adoption in several months ~ we are taking adoption applications for her now. Mila's perfect home would be one that had a fenced-in yard as she is fascinated with the birds and squirrels and, being a puppy, she will love to run and enjoy her freedom.

UPDATED BIO 03/18/2015:A kind veterinarian notified UYR about Mila, who presented to his office with a complete fracture of the distal radius and ulna of her right front leg. Her original owner abandoned her and the person who found her alone, hungry and frightened, was unable to afford the cost of surgery. According to him, her leg was caught in a fold-up bed and that's how the fracture occurred. After being seen by UYR's veterinarian, it has been determined that the splint applied is sturdy and should stay on for several weeks; it will need to be changed every couple of weeks until it is healed.
Mila is a sweet little puppy who hasn't had such a great start in life, but that is changing now that she is under UYR's competent and loving care. She has received her first set of puppy vaccinations; it will be hard to keep Mila quiet so that her leg will heal properly, but with lots of love from her foster parents, that will be accomplished. Mila should be ready for adoption in several months and we are taking adoption applications now.
