8/27/08 - Ruffles past wasn't as "frilly" and "dainty" as her name now suggests. All we know about Ruffles is that she was thankfully picked up by the doggy patrol while walking along a very busy bridge in Dallas. Poor baby probably heard about the magical Yorkie Kingdom and thought she was crossing the draw bridge that would take her right up to the front doors of Carly's Castle. Instead, Ruffles was walking right in the midst of a very dangerous and possibly deadly situation. Sadly, poor little Ruffles was trying her very best to stay to the side of the bridge and out of harms way, but her concentration was rudely interrupted by all of the hurried cars, honking horns and not so loving, inpatient human beings. On top of knowing that she had to make it down to the other side of the bridge safely, she was also dealing with the constant stabbing pain that she was feeling in her eyes. You see, Ruffles was in a great deal of pain from the neglected deep corneal ulcers that had developed in each eye and she was struggling to see clearly.

Once captured by doggy patrol, Ruffles was given her own little space, which was made comfortable with food, water and a soft cozy blanket where she could rest her tired little body. At first, Ruffles felt so relieved just to be off the streets, but what was even better was not having to worry about where her next "so-called" meal was going to come from. Not long after her arrival, her little bit of heaven here on earth turned worrisome. You see, Ruffles overheard the authorities talking about not being able to place her in their adoptions program because of her corneal ulcers, and their only other option was going to be to send her to Rainbow Bridge, if her owners didn't come for her. "RAINBOW BRIDGE," thought Ruffles.....now why in the world would they take me right back to that SAME bridge they just took me off of earlier this morning!?!?!?! Especially after giving me the third degree about being out in that dangerous traffic! Sadly, Ruffles didn't realize that "Rainbow Bridge" was NOT the same bridge that she was on earlier, but instead a place that can't be seen with a pupsters naked eye from earth. It also didn't take long for her little cell mates to quickly fill her in on the shelter 'lingo,' and that's when reality set in that the only way you get to Rainbow Bridge was by leaving earth, and Ruffles certainly didn't want that at all. She also knew that she didn't have a family who cared enough about her to come and save her either. Ruffles still had a lot of living to do, but more importantly she wanted a family who REALLY wanted her and who would not think twice about taking care of any of her medical needs, should they arise. Ruffles then sat very quietly, her head hanging down with tears overflowing from her eyes while trying to understand why so many humans only want pups when we are in the cute fuzzy stage, only to discard us as we get older and start needing their help. Just as all this deep depression set in and knowing that she only had an hour or two before they started sending all the unwanted pupsters to Rainbow Bridge; something very amazing happened! An angel appeared! Heaven's "Angel of Comfort," who is one of thousands of angels and whose only duties are to go around to every single shelter and comfort ALL of the throwaway and lost animals, was standing right in front of Ruffles. This wonderful "Angel of Comfort" not only wiped away the salty tears that were burning through the ulcers in Ruffles' eyes, but she also wrapped her loving wings around Ruffles and delivered the most miraculous news that anyone in Ruffles situation would want to hear; and that was to let her know that her life had just been spared. She softly whispered to Ruffles that this evening was not the evening that she was going to be crossing Rainbow Bridge, but instead she would be entering into a very safe world, called the Yorkie Kingdom. Ruffles could barely contain herself, but she also couldn't believe what she was hearing and thought for sure it must be a mistake. A mistake because for one, Ruffles was not a Yorkie, and two, surely the Yorkie Kingdom was reserved for Yorkies ONLY......right? Weeeeeelll, NO! Not if Princess Carly has anything to do with it. Princess Carly heard about Ruffles neglected past and wanted to give her what every other creature here on earth deserves to have, and that was for her to know what being loved, respected, and cared for really felt like.

Ruffles trip to Carly's Castle took a slight detour as Princess Carly already had arrangements made for her to see the village eye specialist. After her appointment and with medication in paw, Ruffles finally rolled up to the castle gates, where she was greeted by all the curious Yorksters who couldn't wait to see who this Yorkie wannabe was. It didn't take long for Ruffles to settle into her little princess role and get into the "Yorkie" swing of things, while at the same time getting to know her way around the castle and village square. Thankfully, her trip walking across that Dallas bridge has become a thing of the past, and she can now look forward to a life filled with lots of play days with all of her fur-friends..

Ruffles is doing wonderful and her corneal ulcers have completely healed, giving Ruffles a new vision on life. So all she needs now is a responsible forever loving family who will love her and give her the care she needs as she starts to step into her late adult years. If you would like to add a precious and very loving little princess to your family, then please feel free to fill out our on-line adoption application.
