My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Betsy is a survivor. If she could tell her story, it is likely that no one would believe that she is alive. Betsy lived out her puppy-hood with two other dogs with a loving compassionate caregiver, but circumstances changed. An overload of stress and tragedy resulted in disaster for both the human and the dogs. Rescuers had to wear masks to enter the residence to get Betsy. One of the other dogs was already dead, and the second companion was in such awful shape that she had to be euthanized.

There seemed to be hope for Betsy, so she came to the TLC where she is learning that life can be good again. It is a slow process; some days she still will not let anyone touch her. However, she now associates the halter and leash with a walk, and has learned that walks are enjoyable. On very special occasions (of her own choosing) she will come up to someone and allow herself to be stroked. She mingles with the other little dogs, but usually stays by herself, rather than joining in on any play time. Her courage and dignity are obvious, and she is an exceptional dog whose physical scars have healed. The emotional scars will probably never be completely eradicated, but she shows continual improvement, and her potential is awesome. Betsy deserves a person with time and patience to help her finish healing emotionally.

(The third photo of her shows her at intake....she was beautiful even then!)
