My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jill came to Ruff Life with her brother, Jack, from York County Animal Control where they were owner surrenders. Jack and Jill are very sweet, playful, gentle pups.

Jill went to the vet 4/17. Everything was good except the heartworm tests. She tested negative on the antigen test (which tests for adult heartworms), but positive for microfilaria (baby heartworms).

Jill will go to the vet on Wednesday 4/22 to be started on Heartgard. She will receive Benadryl first and will be observed the whole day to make sure she doesn't have any reactions or go into shock. It will be extremely important that Jill gets Heartgard (no other heartworm prevention!) every month on the same day. This will give us the best chance to kill the microfilaria and not allow them to develop into adults. Jill will need to be retested in 6 months. Jill should test heart worm negative, but if she tests positive, we will treat her at one of our approved clinics. She would then need one month of strict crate rest.

Jill is microchipped, has her rabies, first distemper/parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine and is on monthly Frontline. Jill will be spayed and receive her second distemper/parvo vaccine before adoption.

Our adoption fee is $250. All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, fecal tested and up to date on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Puppies are up to date on age appropriate shots. Adults are also up to date on vaccines and heart worm tested (and treated if positive).
