My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Fee: $600

Fostered in Texas

Age: 20 weeks

Weight: 5.9 lbs.

7/27/15 - Duncan is now off of of the phenobarbital completely and down to twice daily on the Keppra. He will get his 2nd round of shots 8/6/15 and then his neuter will be scheduled.

7/10/15 - Duncan is doing so well. He went for a follow-up with his neurologist at GCVS last Friday and we are now weaning him off of the phenobarbital (seizure med) that he is on. He goes for his vaccines on 7/14/15 and at that time we will discuss a neuter/microchip date with the vet. Once he is totally off of the phenobarbital, we will make one more trip back to the neurologist and will then start weaning him off of the last medicine that he is on, Keppra, (another seizure med). The specialist is hopeful and confident that he will be fine getting off all meds, but just by chance if taking him off the Keppra sets off any seizures, then he can go right back on and it can be controlled by this. It is their feeling that when the puppy was initially surrendered, that he could have gotten into a toxin which caused all his issues, or he could have had juvenile epilepsy (which goes away). Since being stabilized and getting great nutrition and medical, he is a normal, rambunctious puppy that is soon ready for his new home.

5/24/15 - Helloooo! It's me Duncan. Don't write me off just yet. I'm fighting and coming around like the huge 3.3 lb yorkie that I knew I could be. The docs here are doing everything they can to understand what is going on with me and fix it. I'm doing my part to let them know what is working and what isn't, but I still need your help with the money part of this. This level of expertise doesn't come cheap, and if you were to see them work first hand, you'd understand why.

I swear, I thought I was a goner when I first arrived, but they refused to give up on me which made me fight harder to stay alive. It's a shame we can't talk. That would make things a whole lot easier.

Anywho, I know we don't know each other personally, and I hate to ask you to put up money on my behalf since we haven't been formally introduced, but I promise I'm worth it. And as soon as I'm up and feeling better, I'll visit each of you to thank you. Ok, that might be a stretch, but I will ask the YHR people to post and thank you for all your support, prayers and donations.

Hugs, kisses and high fives from the ICU at GCVS. Duncan

5/23/15 - Duncan is improving and has been seizure free all day. He does have some aspiration pneumonia due to the multple seizures, but his breathing is also improving and today they were able to take him off oxygen. He is still not out of the woods, but we are very hopeful at this point! He will remain in ICU and anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated!

5/22/15 - Duncan is in ICU due to seizures. He has been there since yesterday. His owner surrendered him to the hospital and they have contacted us to help him.

After speaking with the specialist this morning, we have decided to go ahead with a CT Scan to see if he perhaps has hydrocephalus which can be treated. They have ruled out a liver shunt.

HE NEEDS A CT SCAN ASAP so that we can proceed with what is best for him. He is having seizures that are not well controlled on meds, so if we cannot find the issue and treat it, sadly we will have to let this little one go. We feel we owe it to him to give him this last chance.
