The handsome Gilligan is a well- behaved dog with an affectionate manner. He is used to being with people most of the time, but can handle time alone. He also gets along well with other dogs. At first he played too rough, but that has settled down as he has become less anxious. Gilligan is used to a fenced yard. He knows all his basic commands, is very polite, and has some cute tricks. He loves carrots, and does a game in which I hide a carrot and he sniffs it out and finds it. If I did not know his age, I would think Gilligan was 5 or 6. He is trim, active, solid, energetic. He surprised me one day by leaping into the back of a truck in one big jump. He loves to walk and will be in heel position when told to. Otherwise, we let him sniff and wander, on leash. He pulls some, but that is improving. He jumps up on the couch to look out the window, and is fascinated by birds at the bird feeder. Gilligan has not done one destructive thing since he has been here. He is generally quiet, but if one of my dogs makes a bark, he chimes in with loud woofs. Gilligan is a mature dog with many healthy and vital years ahead of him. He is calm but curious, playful and steady. He is especially fond of men, but seeks attention and affection from women and children too.
And now a word from Gilligan: Yes, it is true that I am a handsome fellow. Since I am no longer a puppy, I have to speak up for myself and let you know that I am everything you are looking for in a dog. I am calm, confident, considerate, caring. I am playful without being demanding, and I know when to lay down and watch the world go by. I don’t get into things or make messes, and I am not pushy at all. This is all because I am an adult, not a noisy youngster. I am experienced with kids, and know how to be a family member. I play fetch and want to learn Frisbee too. Can’t you just feel that empty place in your house where I would fit in so well? I will sit by your chair while you pet my head, and we will have a grand time together exploring and walking. I just hope that you can keep up with me, because I am so completely ready.

Gilligan is a vigorous 8 year old Border Collie who has mastered all basic commands, knows several cute tricks, and is delighted to keep you company. He doesn’t like being by himself and seeks affection appropriately. He lived with small children, and has been a well-loved and well cared for dog. Gilligan has good recall, loves to play with his favorite toys, and knows how to just hang out and be quiet. He enjoys long walks with thorough sniffing of the trails. He is working on not pulling on the leash, as he is used to a pinch collar which we are moving away from. He has good social behaviors with dogs and people, and responds well when dogs set boundaries for him. He is also working on gentler play with other dogs, since he likes to do the rough and tumble games that some dogs don’t enjoy. Gilligan loves to look out the window, and has his favorite sill to put up his paws. He has a great big WOOF as a bark to let us know someone is coming to the door, but is a quiet dog in general. Gilligan has all the wonderful qualities of a mature dog: reliably housebroken, does not chew up or wreck things, quiet at night, and mellow nature. At this moment, he is looking out the window, hoping that just the right family will come along to welcome him into their home.
