My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Allie in Richmond, VA needs a great forever home.
About Allie from family who rescued her:
We adopted Allie from Hanover Animal Control at the end of March and she was in pretty bad shape when we brought her home. She was really thin, had some skin issues and didn’t bark or wag her tail. Someone had really neglected her. The folks at Hanover believe she was with a breeder and was kept outside on a concrete slab as she had callouses on her back side that were bleeding when she came in to the rescue as a stray. It’s awful. At any rate, after a while with us, she had really filled out, her skin issues were almost gone and her personality really started to come out (I think she was finally starting to feel good after being sick for so long). She wagged her tail all the time and barked at the right times (but not too much) and had learned how to play (she loves to retrieve). For the longest time, she was getting along perfectly with both dogs in our house and our two cats. As all of the great things were happening with Allie and she was building confidence, she started showing dominance over the cats and our female dog, Sadie (who is now 18 and has always been the dominant female in the house). She had altercations with all three of them and then bit my daughter when she accidentally tripped over her. I contacted Hanover and they advised me to bring her back there while we all looked for a different situation for Allie. I was able to find her a great foster after a short while and she has now been with her for a month.
Here are some specific details on her:
Pit bull mix
Approx 50 lbs – doctor said will be max 55 lbs
Approx 2 years old
Spayed and up on all vaccines, healthy
Wonderful with people
Extremely friendly with other dogs while on a leash or in a yard
Great with male dogs in the house
Not good with dominant female dogs in the house
Not good with aggressive cats
Loves children – older children (10 and over) would be best as she reacted with biting my young daughter’s arm when she accidentally tripped over Allie
Very obedient and trainable (foster is working on basic commands)
Extremely affectionate – follows her people and prefers to sit on their laps (she has no idea how big she is)
It’s hard to do justice describing how incredible Allie is. She is one of the sweetest, most obedient and loyal dogs I have ever met. Attached are a few pictures of her. My favorite is the picture on the beach - we took her to spring break in South Carolina with us and she insisted on crawling into my lap any time I sat down. She just loves being with people... It's so sweet. Also, the spots on her back were left over skin issues and they are all cleared up now. The shaved patch on her arm (pic with her on my lap) is from the IV from getting spayed.
