My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucia and Rex are closely bonded littermates who were surrendered by their previous owner. These gentle, adorable chiweenies (chihuahua dachshund mixes) are approximately a year and a half old, and weigh around 15 pounds each. Rex, the longhaired male, is a little bit taller and larger than his short-haired sister Lucia. Lucia and Rex can be timid with new people and situations, but once they get comfortable, they are affectionate and snuggly. Rex is a bit more outgoing, and likes to give kisses. Lucia, who is bit more reserved, prefers gentle strokes. They love napping together: on their foster mom, with each other on a couch, or in a doggie heap with their foster brother dachshund. They get along great with the human children (ages 3 and 7) in their foster home and would probably do well in a home with or without children. They LOVE playing with the other small dog in the house, and have interacted well when visiting with larger dogs also. They usually ignore the cats in the house, although they occasionally bark to try to instigate a game of chase.
Lucia and Rex are crate-trained, almost house-trained (they still have an occasional accident) and are learning basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Besides snuggling, they love chewing on sturdy dog toys, and going for walks. They are very well-behaved on the leash. Rex and Lucia would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard to keep them safe from digging and wandering. Because Lucia and Rex are closely bonded and take time to feel safe and comfortable, they would probably do best if adopted together to a household where a someone is home a lot of the time. Rex is an agile jumper, and sometimes insists on leaping onto the couch from the side (over the tall armrest) instead of the front! He has also taken to perching on top of the back of the couch, looking like a little sentry until he falls fast asleep up there. Everyone who sees "Regal Rex" thinks he looks like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!
