My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ALFIE IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

If you are interested in adopting Alfie in Oklahoma City, OK please fill out our adoption application on our website at www.brusselsgriffonrescue.org or direct inquires to Connie at conniel@andell.com

Introducing Alfie – This sweet boy was found wandering the streets in an area known for dogs being dumped like trash. Thankfully, he caught the eye of a Good Samaritan who spent time searching for his family. Judging from the poor condition he was in, she knew there was a good chance his family wasn’t looking for him -- and she wasn’t sure she wanted them to. After a few weeks, she contacted NBGR to see if we could help poor Alfie find a family who would never allow him to roam again or get in the poor shape he was in when he was found.

We believe Alfie is an Affenpinscher or Affen mix. He is approximately seven years old, and he weighs 17 lbs. His coat was a horrible mess when he was found; his nails were extremely long; and he was heartworm positive. He recently completed his heartworm treatment and is free to meet his new family and enjoy the life he was meant to have. Now that Alfie is on high-quality dog food, his black coat is shiny and thick.

Alfie has a very cute smile that reveals a mouth full of crooked teeth. (We challenge you to try not to smile when he’s smiling at you.) As cute as his smile is, it is possible that he might have ‘reoriented’ his teeth by chewing on a metal crate or fence , so his foster mom confines him to a small area of the kitchen with a baby gate whenever she is away from home.

Alfie likely spent a good part of his life outdoors. His foster mom is working with him on housetraining, and she says he does his best when he is kept on a regular schedule. As with any male, it is recommended that he wear a belly band for safe measure and not be given free run of the house until he has adjusted to his new home and routine.

Alfie doesn’t play with his foster sibs, but he loves to play keep-away with his foster mom. He also doesn’t show much interest in toys. With his indifference to the other dogs in the home, we feel he would be okay as an only dog or in a home with laid-back, four-legged companions. We have not had Alfie around children or cats.

Alfie is GREAT on leash and LOVES to walk, so a family who likes to get in daily walks would be an ideal match. That way you both have a fun workout partner! On the other hand, he is not much of a morning person, so if you would rather sleep in and walk later, Alfie will gladly oblige.

Above all, Alfie’s favorite activity is snuggling up on his person’s lap. Do you have a little extra space on your lap and in your heart to welcome Alfie into your home? The last family who had him didn’t value this awesome boy, so we will make sure the next family will love him beyond measure...crooked teeth and all.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
