My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A desperate woman reached out to SERRA for help to save her horse from the abuse and neglect by her husband of over 35 years of marriage. Bullies have to control everything and find an egotistical narcissistic power surge enjoyment in leveraging the weaker with their demands. And when abuse of animals begins, we all know that the abuser is just a breath away from abusing humans, or already is doing so.

Caught in an abusive relationship, with her husband slowly slipping into depression and possibly dementia, strong arming his wife with threats on the horse, or by not buying food for the horse so that his wife would do his bidding.

As things went south and started to become worse, she watched the horse suffer if she did not acquiesce and become submissive to her abuser. As much as she wanted to escape the abusive spouse, she asked herself—what else would he do to her beloved horse if she were just to leave? It was unimaginable.

He finally refused the horse any feed at all. That's right...punish the horse for your power hungry need to control your wife. Well, nothing makes us cowgirls crankier then anyone abusing a horse. Not to mention another cowgirl!

In a brief moment when he left the house, the wife emailed us on her smart phone for help. A plan was hatched to remove the horse and thereby remove the threatening abusive leverage that her husband was lording over her. Then, once the horse was trailered off the property to safety, she too would leave and find her own safety and create a new future without abuse.

Little did we think that we would be rescuing two! But as life and luck have it, when she reached out to get help for her horse she gained a whole community that rallied to her side. She wrote: "I have reviewed the surrender form and will have it filled out by Friday. Yesterday was so emotional for me. I was in tears on and off all day. I know this is the right and best thing for my horse. I feel good knowing he will be in your organization's capable hands. He has so much life in him and so much to give. I love thinking of him having other horsey buddies instead of being so lonely most of the day. Knowing that I will be able to visit him makes me feel better too!"

This is a very courageous woman. Feeling trapped and so manipulated, yet he chose action and put the horse first and foremost.

Rafi is a former dressage horse and would be a great schoolmaster for a rider learning their basics. He adores people, loves affection and has a lot of 'Try' in him. He's a tall big 'goombah'! Presently we are taking him through natural horsemanship ground school to shore up any holes in his foundation. He's a most willing student. Gentle, and just wants to please.

He stands a handsome 17h, vaxx are all current, dental done, sound at the walk, trot and canter. Sweet guy! Needs a gentle soft rider.
