My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tina is currently living in a foster home in Houston, Texas and available for adoption.

Tina is about 3 years old, 58 pounds and has a very mellow and shy personality. Her breed is a bit of a mystery, but Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix seems accurate. She will be the most loyal and affectionate pup you’ve ever known once she is part of the family.

Tina is a very shy girl upon first meeting and takes a bit longer to acclimate to a new home and family due to what seems to have been a very traumatic beginning to her life. She was rescued by Reggie’s Friends after being turned into the county shelter as a stray. She joined her foster family in February 2015 where she has adjusted and made amazing progress. She had some medical issues to get through and now is fully recovered, healthy and ready to join a forever family.

Tina loves other dogs and is friendly and submissive to all of them no matter what size or breed. She enjoys being part of a pack, so she needs at least 1 other dog in her family, but more would be great. Despite her size, she is very quiet and it rarely seems as there is an additional dog because she’s very well-mannered, neutral and goes with the flow.

As mentioned before, Tina is a very timid girl at first, but bonded to her foster mom and the 4 permanent dogs in the family within 2 days of her arrival. There is a toddler in the family and it took her about 4 weeks to allow the toddler to pet her, but that is an amazing transition period considering toddlers are often unpredictable in their movements and their voice control. The toddler now hugs and kisses Tina and has fake tea parties on her back while Tina is lying down. She’s not nervous with her at all anymore. Tina has had a longer adjustment period to the man in the house, so we assume that her first owner was not kind and may have been male. She can adapt to a man that is kind, calm and spends bonding time with her each time.

Tina’s favorite activity is to go for walks. She loves walking and is the first one at the door in the evenings. She was afraid to go at first and now she has overcome all of her fears of the outdoors, including cars, other dogs and everything that you typically pass along the way on a walk.

The ideal family for Tina is a patient, compassionate female adopter whom lives a simple, quiet life with any type of other dog or dogs. Her furry friends need to be more confident than she is so she has someone to guide her, but that’s not a difficult task to find. She’s a low energy pup, whom loves to politely cross her front feet, takes treats gently, sunbathes on the deck and walks like a champ on her leash. She will be a lover of movie night, gardening, strolls through the neighborhood and hanging out with the other dogs.

Tina rarely barks, she’s never needed a kennel, she’s completely house broken, she’s never destroyed a thing, she sheds some like a shepherd and she gives the sweetest little licks to tell you how appreciative she is. She will be a perfect pup for someone. If you are looking for a cuddle bug, companion for your current dogs and a gentle spirit, please consider Tina and email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org for more information or to talk to her foster mom.
