My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howard is so named after one of our beloved supporters! He was rescued from the shelter's doggy death row today, August 13th and is now safely in foster! We will post updates on him including a video in the next few days but DO feel free to call (916) 303-0334 if you think Howie is the perfect match for you! Here is what the shelter staff had to say about him while he was in the care: Howard is an adorable, dainty cuddlebug. He was born in his former owner's house approx. one year ago, and was an indoor-outdoor dog. He lived with adults and children, and is described as being friendly and playful with the children. How got along well with the 5+ other small dogs in the home. He was trained to use potty pads in the house.

When I went to meet tiny (approx. 6 lbs) Howard today for the first time, he was trying to make himself disappear behind his water bowl. I gently picked him up, and he trembled while I carried him to our office. In our office, I held little Howard in my arms for a while, and he started to relax and explore. He took some cheese from me, then climbed up onto the desk and started rooting through my treat bag! So even though he is so scared here, I think he will warm up very quickly in a foster home environment.
