My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Canines With a Cause is now accepting adoption applications for a special dog called Hero, who has been trained by female inmates in the Utah Department of Corrections. Hero is a well-trained, smart and attentive dog. With his sweet face and signature ‘raccoon tail’, he's a very handsome boy with minimal grooming needs. He loves water but would rather not be smothered with cuddles or ‘in your face attention’ until he really gets to know you. Then he is all yours! Hero is playful and gets along with other dogs but can be picky about his male dog friends who consider themselves king of the dog park. He is best suit in an experienced home that knows heelers, or an active home where he is given his space. And just to be on the safe side we don’t recommend a home with small children, or cats.

Hero’s 6 months of prison training covered many aspects of socialization, basic manners and obedience, including sit to greet a person, sit to go through a door, crate training, house training, sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, come when called, and loose leash walking. He also has a few tricks up his sleeve such as speak, high five, and targeting. Dogs from the prison training program also receive appropriate veterinary care, are neutered, and current on vaccinations. If you are looking for a well trained, independent, and loyal hiking buddy then Hero may just be the dog for you!
