My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mellow Young Poodle Mix

*SWEET LITTLE SAMMY NEEDS A FOSTERHOME OR FOREVER-HOME ASAP*

Poodle/Terrier mix, male, 1 year old, 20 lbs, neutered.

Sammy is:
- SUPER LOVING & AMAZINGLY FRIENDLY
- VERY passive
- Quiet (only barks when someone walks in the door... and it's only ONE deep 'woof' when he does bark...)
- Good with other dogs
- Playful
- Likes to chill on the couch, and sleep on the bed with you.
- The vet says Sammy is now in GREAT health and ready for a FAMILY to LOVE and PLAY with him.

Sammy's caregiver writes:

'We were offered a dog through a friend-of-a-friend.  We were told that he would be an excellent companion for my 76 year old mom. The story was that the family had to move suddenly, and needed to find their dog a good home (they moved on Friday - out of state) but the son was supposed to be in town until next Friday just in case things didn't work out with the dog). We had agreed to do a week-test-run and it was made clear that if things didn't go well with Sammy and our dog (or if he was 'too much puppy' for my mom) - we would be returning the dog to them so that they could continue to try to find him a new home.  When they brought him - it was clear that he had been horribly neglected.  We were appalled - to say the least.  There was NO WAY we were going to return him to them again...

'To add insult to injury, my dog wants nothing to do with him.  My dog is an older (grouchy) dog (9 years old), and has made himself ill from the stress.  Almost $350.00 later in vet bills (in just 1 weeks time) - my family and I decided that this just isn't fair to our dog, and my vet agreed.  He recognized that my dog just cannot handle another dog in the house.
My vet (whom I've trusted for almost 18 years) strongly suggested NOT returning Sammy to his'so-called-previous-owners' (the vet's words exactly).
I have tried to ask friends and family if they can take Sammy in, but no one is able to do so.  Sammy need your help.  Sammy deserves a good home.

I have:
- Sammy's entire vet records since birth (I asked the owner where Sammy's vet was, and drove there to get his records) - he was born on 9/28/2010 - he's a little over a year old.
- Taken Sammy to MY vet to have him treated - and a full physical.  I can provide a copy of all vets records.
- Sammy's been bathed, and treated by my vet, and is now clean from head-to-paw.  His latest Flea treatment was 1/20/2012.  I can provide the other vials for 2 more months of treatment.
- He has been groomed by my vet and my husband (the vet did his ears, and my husband did the rest of Sammy's body).  We had to shave-down some parts (the vet did that), because the matting was indescribable... there are a few areas that need to grow-out a bit, but he has a BEAUTIFUL coat now.
- We've given him a new collar (they had one on him that was 2 sizes too small, and it was choking him).
- I've purchased food (IAMS All Natural for dogs 1+ years), and other essentials.
