My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Sampson is currently living in a board and train facility in Houston, Texas with his amazing trainer and he is now ready to make his life with a loving, active family. He is available for local or out-of-state adoption.**

If the adorable brown patch over my left eye hasn’t won you over, let me tell you a bit more about myself. My name is Sampson and I’m about 2.5 years old, 50 pounds and I’m a Staffordshire Terrier. I was rescued right off of off the streets of Houston, Texas in really poor condition. I’m all fixed up, have gained some much needed weight and I’m ready to find my family. I’m a cheap date as I love just about any food and I’m a bit of a jokester too…like one time I sniffed out a brand new bag of treats while on a road trip and ate all of them. I promise to keep you entertained at all times, to always eat anything you offer and to always be easy to please.

I am very social with the dogs that I live with currently because I was slowly and properly introduced to them and monitored until it was clear we were all buddies. I play very well with these guys and really love them, so it is possible for me to have doggy friends, but I just need longer than normal introductions because I’m active and have a more dominant personality. I’m too active and play a bit rough for small dog companions. I also don’t like to share my space with cats, well because …they’re cats and I’ve never had them in my life. I’d likely be best as an only dog in my new family or with a female that is sweet, loving and doesn’t mind if I’m the dominant personality. I’m not a bad guy because of this…I just had to learn the hard way when I was a stray.

My energy level is varied depending on the activity. I’m cool, calm and a settled gentleman while inside the house. While I’m out with my friends, I like to play hard and fast, have fun and make the best of every happy day. I ride in the car very well, in the front seat is preferred so I can see everyone and they can see me! If a person wants to share the front passenger seat with me, that’s a huge bonus! I would sit for hours on a road trip, get out and run like a puppy and then hop back in again like the good boy that I am. I’d love to travel with my new family!

I LOVE people and most of all, I want to cuddle with everyone I meet. I AM a lap dog and everyone that knows me can attest to that fact because I’ve cuddled with them all. I’m especially fond of the ladies in my life that have taken such great care of me, but I can be a guy’s guy too. Can you see me in your lap as we watch movies? One of my best friends is a 7 year old boy and I get to spend a lot of time with him and LOVE it. He gives me lots of attention and I’d love to have children in my life to play with, but his age and older are perfect for my energy level and size. I’d be a fantastic running partner so long as the distractions are minimal.

Although I’d like to spend every waking hour with my people, I do realize that I need some beauty sleep while you go to work or run errands, so I want you to know that I’m house and kennel trained so we won’t have any issues there. I’m incredibly smart and my trainer says that too much freedom too quickly will lend to my mischievous side coming out, so because I want a family of my own so badly…I’ll use my crate until we are all comfortable and I promise it won’t be long as it hasn’t been in my trainer’s home.

I’ve been working on my leash skills and I’m happy to hear my trainer say that I’ve learned to walk closely by the side of my human on the heel command, I come to a sit when she stops walking, I don’t jump up anymore and I don’t need to pull or lunge when I’m super excited. I need a new family that will continue using these commands and not allow me to forget my manners. I love the attention I get when I’m so well-behaved!

Sampson is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and healthy. Sampson’s adoption fee is $300 if adopted within Texas and $500 if adopted out-of-state, which will cover the cost of his airline flight, travel crate and kennel bed. Those items are his to keep and use at his new house upon his arrival. If you can resist this active gentleman with the eye patch, please visit our website, www.reggiesfriends.org for an adoption application under the Adoptables tab or for more information about this stellar pup, email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org.
