My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JADA is a 7 year old spayed chocolate female Lab who weighs 68 pounds. Jada, poor girl had a rough life before coming to us but it is all blue skies for her from here on out. She was an owner give up to a shelter. She is a "tripod", missing her left rear leg, but she does not know it! The story goes that she was hit by a car in 2011 and ended up losing her leg. However, her "owner" did no other vetting for her so she came to us kind of a mess. She had not been spayed, had no vaccines, had poor skin and coat, a mammary tumor and missing a leg, but her spirit was still wonderful and sweet! She is getting a lot of TLC at the vet and getting ready to go to a foster for more! Her skin and coat are starting to look much better. She had the mammary tumor removed with wide margins and the biopsy came back benign and has been brought up to date on everything and spayed. She had a couple of rough days after surgery but is feeling much better and life is staring anew for her! Jada is easy on leash and a good rider. Having three legs does not hinder her at all in any way. She is house trained. She is good with other dogs. She is approved for kids 10+.

Update (12/13): Jada attending the adoption event today in Frederick, MD. Watch her video here: https://youtu.be/xgMjNdacewY

Update (12/02) JADA’S JOURNAL ENTRY: I have been in my new foster home for almost two weeks. My previous FM had knee surgery. I miss her - she gave me apple slices with peanut butter before bed. My new FM sometimes forgets, but I love her too. I thought I should tell everyone about myself so that I can find my forever home—maybe one where I can get apples with peanut butter before bed. Or at least lots and lots of love.
· I am a fast walker. FM thinks it’s because I have three legs and it’s easier for me to keep a quick pace. I can walk more slowly. I just like to walk. And run.
· I am perfectly happy in my crate.
· I am a perfect bedmate. I snuggle, but give my humans lots of room because I roll myself into a tight little ball when I sleep.
· I sleep all night without a peep—in bed with you, or in my crate.
· I also like to bark at the cats. FM doesn’t think I would be the best fit with cats. If my foster kitties hold their ground, I just go away. If they run, I chase.
· I like other dogs, but I could be an only dog, too.
· I like tennis balls and chew toys.
· I’m a happy girl. I give stealth kisses.

Update (11/18): Jada is a ray of sunshine! She loves her foster fur-brothers and happily welcomes canine visitors to my home. Her tripod status does not hinder her from enjoying our 1-mile walks each day where she relishes any chance to meet new humans to charm. She's always smiling! Each morning she skips across the entry-level hardwood and ceramic floors, to then bound up 13 hardwood stairs, to then run full throttle down a hardwood hallway to launch herself onto my bed! After a graceful landing she covers me with kisses (i.e., it's breakfast time)! She doesn't have issues navigating the 6 deck steps either, but she needs a little boost to get into the back of my SUV (she can enter without assistance from the side-doors). She's house trained, crate trained, sits like a princess for bath time, allows me to brush her teeth, taps you with her left paw to get ear scratches, and love toys! Especially, tennis balls. She loves to chew them and when ready for a game of fetch will drop the tennis ball in your lap. Each day she takes one toy to her special place (a corner of the couch) and amuse herself for hours! If I'm also on the couch and turn to look at her, or just say, "Hi, Jada-Kiss", her tail starts a thumpin', the butt starts a wigglin' and she'll scoot over for some pets, or scratches or to give me a kiss. My husband remarked that he's never seen a dog who is so happy to play all by herself! That's just her nature ~ everything in life is a delight. Her favorite evening treat = apple slices coated with peanut butter; but also likes cheese, popcorn & carrots. Sweet Jada is having fun with us while patiently waiting for her forever home and I have no doubt she will make her forever family very happy!

Update (11/07): Jada is doing great! She's so well mannered and loves giving kisses! She gets along wonderfully with her foster siblings and waits patiently for treats.
